After it has become quite certain that the LMM (likely meaning 'Lufmassenmesser' or 'mass airflow sensor') from Daimler-Chrysler...
'(A 6110940048) is compatible with the Passat 1.9 TDI engines AHH, AJM, ATJ, AVB, AHU, AFN, and AVG. I would like to know if it also fits the Golf IV TDI, 66kW, ALH engine.'
The original VW part number for the mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) on the Passat is 028 906 461. Will this MAF sensor also fit in a Golf IV with an ALH engine?

Hello Alois,

The LMM (Linear Mass Meter) with the part number 028 906 461 was installed in the following models:

Passat:
AVB, AJM, ATJ, AHU, AFN, AVG

Polo:
AGR, ALH, ASV

LT:
AGX

Transporter:
ACV, ON.

Caddy:
ALH

A4:
AFN, AFF, AHU, AHH, AVG, AJM, ATJ

A6:
AFN, AVG, AJM.

The part number for the mass airflow sensor (MAF) for the Golf ALH is 06A 906 461.
Here's the explanation of the VAG part numbers again:

The original part number consists of a 9-digit numerical sequence.

The first group of numbers usually indicates the type and model, except for part numbers for the engine, transmission, generator, starter, and components of the ignition system, which are specific to a particular unit.

The first digit of the middle group of numbers indicates the main group, while the two subsequent digits indicate the subgroup.
The last group of numbers represents the actual numerical part designation.
Modifications to an original part are indicated by one or two letters in the 10th and 11th positions of the original part number.
Tschüss

Michael II

You can also use the ones from gasoline engines (e.g., 2.0 or 1.8T).

The lambda sensor (LMM) is the same; it only has one temperature sensor (pin 1) in the fuel injectors, but this is not used for diesel engines anyway (pin 1 in the connector is not connected).

The part number is the same, but there's just an additional letter added to it.

So, if I understand correctly, what that means in plain English is:

The last three digits are the actual part number. If those digits end in 461, and this is the same for the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor used in the Passat with engine codes AHU and AWX, then are these MAF sensors the same?

If not, where can one obtain the technical data for the individual components in order to compare them?

a slightly irritated Jörg.

Edited!
@Michael II,
Thank you for the information. Well, it seems the LMM (likely mass measurement) from DC probably won't fit the Golf IV ALH.
@Gremlin,
It would only be interesting to look at the DC LMM, as the price is supposed to be around 70 euros.

Just read in 'the other forum' that the mass airflow sensor (MAF) seems to be compatible based on its electrical specifications. However, the connector doesn't fit perfectly (it can be secured with a cable tie, for example), and the flange also doesn't align precisely, but it can be sealed.
