Hi everyone,
I'm completely lost right now: I just downloaded the latest update from Ross-Tech (VCDS 805.1), and now I have four icons on my desktop, one for each version, some in English and some in German. So, my question is: do I need to pay attention to anything to ensure that the program is simply updated to the latest version, or is this intentional?
And: How do I know when a German-language update is available? I've stumbled upon one before, but I can't remember how it happened, no matter how hard I try.
The limited overview I had is now completely disappearing. And with each update, of course, there are also new subfolders with logs.
I would be grateful for a helpful tip.
Best regards, Stephan.

Edit: The data reappeared elsewhere (in the "Contacts" section), so I'm lucky again. Perhaps it was restored during the system recovery.

Okay, hier ist die Übersetzung:

"I'll still leave the original text here."

I'm satisfied.

Does anyone know how I can recover the old data?

Thank you and best regards.
Stephan.

Hello Stephan,

If you install x different versions, then x different installation folders will naturally be created.
The data under 'Kaufmann automotive diagnostic systems' also disappears when you press the "Shift-Remove" key, which is logical because that's the intended function of your operating system.

If you only selected "Remove," please check the Windows Recycle Bin for the "Logs" folder.

In principle, with my version, it should be sufficient to simply install the latest RKS installation package in the respective language. Logs are never deleted during this process.
The redirection from 'Kaufmann kfz-diagnosesysteme' to 'Kaufmann' was a sensible decision due to the very long path and the new company name.

If you want to get rid of the extra installations/icons, as is common in Windows, you can uninstall the software through the Control Panel. Aside from that, the "Remove" button is your friend (or your enemy, depending on how well you get along with your PC).

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer,

It wasn't a problem with the dangerous "Delete" key icon_smile.gif. Shortly after installing the new version 805.1 (triggered by clicking on the window indicating a newer version was available), the "Kaufmann" folder suddenly disappeared before my eyes, without me doing anything. The folder with the long name is still in place (drive Cicon_smile.gif. Two subfolders remain: one with VAG.com Vers. 704 (my initial installation after purchase) and the newer VCDS-RKS(-GER) with data from June to early August, I believe (I'm using a different computer now).
As I mentioned, I'm now finding the "Kaufmann" folder with the current data under my user profile in "Contacts." Something seems to have gone wrong. It's also possible that the system reset to the previous day's state moved the folder there.
I also understood that the newer versions were "updates" that would be installed "on top" of the existing software, leaving user-created files untouched. However, the installation process apparently worked differently, resulting in me now having all three Kaufmann versions installed side-by-side, in the peculiar order described above.

Should I (of course, after backing up the logs) delete the longer Kaufmann path and replace it with the new version at that location?

Best regards, Stephan.

Hello Stephan,

There's something wrong with your computer.

Download and install the version. That's it. You can then manually copy logs from anywhere/anytime into the "Logs" subfolder.

Best regards, Rainer.
