Hey,

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, I know, she's been completely out of it for a few days; there's something wrong with the wireless keyboard icon_lol.gif.

To definitively rule out the wheels, you should test a different tire/wheel set on the front axle. Possibly, one of the tires has a carcass damage (I've experienced this before), which causes the tire to run unevenly under load.

Okay, yes, I understand that. I will try to install my winter tires tomorrow to test them out! If I look at the weather forecast, I might just leave them on anyway icon_lol.gif.

Differential damage to the transmission, oh my god, I hope not! If that's the case, a new transmission will be needed.

I know that it's quite difficult with these, what you might call, remote diagnoses, but even DEKRA isn't finding anything!
Well, I'll try my luck tomorrow and see what comes out, and I'll get back to you again (of course, in a friendly manner icon_wink.gif)!!!

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"MFG" stands for "Mit freundlichen Grüßen," which translates to "Sincerely" or "Best regards" in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry it took longer than expected!

Okay:
I tried it with a different sentence using "Sommeralus," but it didn't work!
"I tried a brand new set of winter tires on another Golf car, and they worked perfectly without any issues, but when I put them on my own car, it still doesn't work!"

"So, I took the advice about having it professionally balanced. I went to a place where they build their own balancing machines, ran the test, and the result was still no success! They couldn't detect any imbalance whatsoever! (And thankfully, they didn't charge me anything for it because it didn't yield any results - which I think is great)."

Then I didn't feel like dealing with it anymore, so I took it to the workshop. After a whole day, they called me and said I could pick up my car!
I went there, and I was happy that he had finally found the mistake, but then...

He looked at me and said something like, "I've never seen anything like it!"
He replaced the driveshafts, gears, tie rod ends (on the right side), which were old and had play. The strut mounts, engine mounts, stabilizer bar, etc., are all okay!
He had also tried fine-tuning it again, but without any success.
He also took it for a test drive and noticed the same symptoms that I described!

Okay, and now I'm still stuck like this???
To be honest, I'm not in the mood anymore!
Best regards new_all_coholic.gif.

He denies it! He said that there's nothing missing from the transmission and differential.
He can say a lot!! Could I perhaps test that myself??

But the worst part came later, as a joke: "

"I can try to replace everything; eventually, I'll probably have success and find the error."

Because I'm at the end of my rope!!

Disappointing icon_wink.gif
I'm completely stuck; I've run out of ideas.
If things continue like this, I'm going to get something new!

If I may interject...

The issue described by Mugel in 1983 perfectly matches the problem I'm facing.

My car: Skoda Octavia, 1.9 TDI, 66 kW, AGR (adjustable lumbar support), sedan, '97.

Problem description: Starting at exactly 80 km/h, there is a strong vibration from the left front axle, accompanied by noises coming from the footwell that do not decrease with increasing speed. (It sounds like a milling machine icon_razz.gif). During the initial inspection by the 'friendly' service center...
The right bearing was replaced (even though I said it was the left one).
Another wheel set was replaced, but it didn't work.
Yesterday, the left side component was replaced. Again, without success, and even other experienced mechanics cannot explain what is causing the problem. Now, I am supposed to have the entire half-shaft/drive shaft replaced icon_sad.gif! AAH, that will be expensive.
(Oh yeah, my cuff shows no signs of tearing or anything like that.)

'I've been driving like this for almost 3 months now, and no one has found a solution.'

Does anyone else have any advice?

Best regards, Kylie icon_smile.gif.

Okay, the left half-shaft/drive shaft has now been replaced... without success. The noises are still the same. icon_cry.gif

A differential bearing failure is now likely. I have performed a transmission oil change, and tiny metal shavings are visible... icon_confused.gif

* Could the wear be due to the gears or the bearings?
Has anyone here already performed a repair like this before?
* possible cost estimate?

Please provide feedback icon_rolleyes.gif.

Best,
Kylie

"Good question. Normally, I would say neither, but rather a faulty rivet connection between the pinion gear and the differential cage, especially if the transmission otherwise runs smoothly. A defective, worn-out bearing should manifest itself in other ways. To pinpoint the problem precisely, the part needs to be disassembled. However, before that, everything else should be ruled out, including the remaining right driveshaft."
In this case, you could also replace the joints of the old left drive shaft for testing purposes.

Okay... My problem has been fixed. It was a faulty differential. The transmission was replaced, and the clutch was also changed at the same time... It took a long time and was expensive, but I'm glad it's over now. Best regards, Kylie icon_wink.gif

@Kylie
Was ist passiert? Wurde das transmission disassembled and the fault located, or was it just replaced?

@everyone
I'm experiencing a similar problem. In my case, the vibrations are only noticeable under load, meaning when accelerating hard. Everything seems fine during normal driving. This has been happening for quite some time now, sometimes more intensely, sometimes less. I don't feel anything in the steering wheel. So far, I was hoping it might be related to the drive shafts, but the boots seem to be okay.

Otherwise, the ALH-G4 (with ASV injectors and original ASV engine management) has over 300,000 km on it. The tie rod ends now have some play, and the strut mounts may also need to be replaced soon. However, the tie rod ends, wheel bearings, ball joints, and control arms were all new as of summer 2008. The tires, etc., are also in good condition, and the issue occurs consistently with different sets of tires.

Since I can't identify a specific part as the source of the vibrations, swapping left and right parts likely won't help. Has anyone had experience with aftermarket joints, i.e., non-original parts?

I'm always open to more suggestions...

Best regards, Erik.

Just a quick update: The inner right joint was completely loose on my end. I haven't cleaned it properly yet, but there was significant play in it. Now everything is back to normal. Thankfully, I didn't have to replace the entire transmission...
