Passat AVF: High Fuel Consumption Explained

Hello,

"My Passat AVF automatic is consuming too much fuel, 12 liters per 100 km with normal driving. The air filter and mass airflow sensor are new. After an "Spritspar-Tuning" adjustment, the fuel consumption decreased slightly, but only at speeds of 120 km/h and above. Below 120 km/h, the fuel consumption is still high."
How can I use VAG-COM to find errors or read/correct the fuel injection timing?
The car has 162,000 kilometers on the odometer.

First, I would check the coolant temperature reported to the engine control unit, then look for leaks in the charge air system. Cracked rubber hoses are a common problem here.

Stuck brake pads (rear) also cost 1/2 liter of fuel.

12 liters per 100km... hmm, does that mean the automatic transmission is also stuck in 3rd gear?

12 liters /100 KM I would never be able to achieve that, not even if I attached my living room to the back!

Does the car automatically brake when coasting?
Automatic system in emergency mode?
Automatic transmission shifts very late - high RPMs?
Are the tires properly inflated?
Automatic transmission fluid level, OK?
When was the last time the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) was changed, including the filter? Even though it's supposedly never supposed to be changed, it can work wonders!
Timing belt tension, 100% correct?
Is the fuel return cooler leaking at the bottom?

The brakes are in good working order.
The automatic transmission seems to be shifting normally, but I need to check if it's in a limp mode. Good idea!
I don't know if the timing belt tension is correct; I'll check that next week.

Last month, the car was at a Bosch service center, and they said the injection duration was too long, and they replaced the third fuel injector.

... if the automatic transmission is in limp mode, you can immediately tell by the completely red illuminated gear indicator on the speedometer, or you'll notice it even faster because the car will only be in fourth gear, making it feel like chewing gum.

Yes, and, did it help?

No, that didn't help.

We have now adjusted the injection timing, and as a result, the average fuel consumption is now 2 liters lower.
But still 10 liters per 100 kilometers... that's too much .

The gears are shifting properly!

It would be better to restore your smoker to its original design. Everything that comes out the back as smoke is just unburned fuel.

Looking at some of the things in the log, I'm feeling sick. This has nothing to do with chip tuning, but rather with sloppy work. Also, please read the instructions on how to create a log (see the "Upload Subforum").
