Hi,
A friend of mine bought a used Volkswagen Golf 5 last year.
A service was performed - according to the manufacturer's longlife interval.
Now, after almost 15,000 kilometers, the car... you guessed it... needs servicing.
Supposedly, it's because she mostly drives in the city icon_confused.gif.

I have reviewed the relevant adaptation channels today.
Code:
Kanal 40 (gefahrene Wegstr. seit letztem Service) Wert: 149 -> 14.900km

Kanal 41 (Zeit seit letztem Service)              Wert: 368 -> 368 Tage

Kanal 42 (minimale km-Fahrleistung)               Wert: 150 -> 15.000km

Kanal 43 (maximale km-Fahrleistung)               Wert: 300 -> 30.000km (fest: 150, variabel: 300)

Kanal 44 (maximales Zeitintervall)                Wert: 744 -> 744 Tage

Kanal 45 (Ölqualität)                             Wert: 2 (fest: 1, vaiabel: 2)

Kanal 49 (minimales Zeitintervall)                Wert: 372  (fest: 365, variabel:730)

Everything fits with the variable interval... except for channel 49.
According to OpenOBD, it should be above 730 (presumably referring to a measurement value).

Was war es also wirklich: ihr tatsächliches Fahrverhalten (und damit die Information, die Open OBD anzeigt), oder...
Does the forgotten (?) channel 49 overpower everything else?

If the time interval follows the same logic as the mileage, then a year would be...
Also suitable for long-life oil (but definitely not before).

Best regards, Micha.

Hi Micha,

Based on my recollection of the Polo (which I now drive with fixed intervals), the recorded data for time and mileage included "logical" minimum and maximum values. Therefore, the data being read out seems correct, and there appears to be an error in Open OBD.

For your consolation: Your acquaintance is not an isolated case. For example, in the 9N.info forum, many drivers also complain about variable intervals that are actually almost as short as fixed intervals.

It seems so to me too.

I'm afraid that if he had been allowed to, the lamp would have been turned on earlier.
(which, however, was prevented by the values in channel 42 and 49).
It looks like there might be a bug in the software (at least with the gasoline models).
in the calculation of the time / distance until the next service icon_twisted.gif.
It's really unacceptable that he's using that expensive long-life oil.
...just goes as far as it would with regular, inexpensive oil.

Best regards, Micha.

It just goes as far as normal "cheap oil".
From a consumer's perspective: yes.

From the seller's perspective, but... icon_twisted.gif

The oil must be bought; buy 5 liters for 40.- icon_biggrin.gif.
No, yesterday I also set my Touran's mileage check to another 15,000 km... the next one is at 90,000 km. ha icon_cool.gif

It's better to change the oil too often than not enough. What's 40 euros compared to engine damage? Change the oil, then switch channel 49, and drive until it alerts you again. It'll be fine.
