Okay, I also have one of those "UFI filters" now. It's so narrow that I could barely fit the "Knackfrosch" inside...
It could only be opened with a large screwdriver that had a big handle. It was impossible to open it with your fingers.
He's probably not going to come out of this unscathed.
Well, otherwise, regarding the perceived quality... it's complete garbage. Unfortunately, I only realized too late that it was made in China.
You can't even buy original parts anymore .
I had already replaced the filter and thermostat because I was also getting a lot of air in the intake line to the pump. However, this hasn't had any effect on the engine's operation yet.
Now I still occasionally have a few air bubbles, but fewer than before.
How much air pressure can the wing cell pump withstand over the long term?
PS: My UFI waste disposal cost 32.20.

That really hits me, Malte.
I've never experienced anything quite like it.
The fact is that the "air leak" problem was caused by a loose seal fit, and thicker seals were likely available later or even came standard from Volkswagen.
Could it be that you've installed a particularly tight filter and, in addition, a particularly thick gasket?
It shouldn't require force to get it in, or did you put it in dry, without any grease or diesel?
I wouldn't call that scrap, especially since the UFI diesel filters are now being included as original equipment... Gruß, der Teileklaus

Well, I installed the parts that I got from the original parts package from VW.
The seals were already attached to the thermostatic valve.

"Of course, I lubricated the O-rings and seals with diesel fuel. Also, I had previously filled the filter with diesel fuel through that hole... So, everything was actually wet."

Perhaps they created very specific templates for these application processes.
Edit: Now I know what the H2O filter is. It might be good, but just because it's included in the standard equipment doesn't mean that's a measure of the quality of these older filters.

Malte.

My car was first registered in 2003, and it originally had a Knecht air filter. I then bought another one from VW... The third one was also a Knecht... so I haven't had any problems with them.
It's almost as if the car manufacturers are changing things up. I think there are price negotiations every year... but I also think it depends on the model and the specific car. My brother bought a car at the same time as me, also with VW technology, and the Knecht filter was already slightly different in his case. It's all very complicated. I got my two filters from VW, and even then, one had a different part number than the first one.
So, today it's Ufi, tomorrow it's Purflux.

Black on the bottom and blue on the top. I just looked at my old valve, and Wolfgang is definitely right.
It seems there are more people out there with these UFi filters from China...
Three weeks ago, I replaced the Difi and the "Knackfrosch" (presumably a specific part) from our Sharan. There was also a UFI module from China installed, purchased at full price from the official dealer during the last inspection, and it still lacked the drainage function.
My enthusiasm was somewhat limited.
Okay, a man has now installed a WK 853/11 model for half the price, along with a new "Knackfrosch" (likely a specific type of valve or fitting), and everything is quiet now. It went in normally, no tools were needed. However, it's still sealed so far.
"Mann filters are just as reliable as Bosch parts for diesel injection systems. You can't go wrong with them. However, please don't take this as an endorsement of a specific brand. Everyone can install whatever they think is best. But with Mann filters, things work perfectly in our cars. I'm just sharing my experience." Passat Variant BGW 2005

Hi again, my point was that the problem of dimensional accuracy should be addressed not by focusing on the external appearance, but by ensuring good filtration performance with water separation. Some people were writing about loose connections on the sealing ring, which could lead to air leaks.
Since I mainly use UFI filters from other brands, I looked for the filter with the smallest diameter, and that was the UFI filter with a diameter of 10.5 mm.
If, retrospectively, and likely because it was also noticed by others, the dimensions of the seals or the fit of the thermostat frog were increased, which I haven't re-measured, then it's clear why it's now difficult to operate.
"As far as I know, UFI is an Italian brand, and the products are labeled in both English and Italian. However, I'm surprised that the OEM filters from UFI are actually manufactured in China."
"It seems only the H2O filters have a patent, and in my opinion, the others are hardly distinguishable from Mann, Mahle, or Knecht. However, I haven't done any comparative tests regarding dirt retention."
@ Malte
I highly doubt that anyone makes it into the initial production run based solely on a "perfect application filter." If the quality isn't right, the entire shipment is immediately sent back to the manufacturer... it's that strict.
By the way, a colleague had his last OEM Krafi fuel filter installed at OPEL, due to warranty reasons. What did I take out? Right, a 60 H2O fuel filter from UFI... there was no indication on the label that it was made in China.
I hope I'm not being biased, but for me, the quality justifies the price. Gruß, der Teileklaus

The corporation has had a factory in China for several years, and it welcomes (or perhaps demands?) that its suppliers also establish themselves nearby. UFI likely did the same. It's also a trend that's becoming increasingly common everywhere.
Unfortunately, there are also A4/Passat filter models C26168 from Mann & Hummel, made in China, that are being sold in Germany.
"And ATE also produces there now. These brake discs are distributed in Germany under the Barum brand. Unfortunately, they are also packaged in genuine ATE packaging. They have "made in PRC" printed on them in small letters. Typically, the cardboard box for these "ATE overseas" discs is also sealed in plastic wrap." Passat Variant BGW 2005

@Opening diameter for Klaus.
Today, I bought two Mann Wk853/3x filters (part number 1J0 127 401).
and a male connector WK853/11 (7M0 127 401 A) was used, and the inner diameter of the hole in the "Knackfrosch" (presumably a specific part) was measured.
It is exactly 12.8 mm. Both filters will receive the new "Knackfrosch" with both O-rings. Please refer to the sketch by Martin.
"1J0 127 247 E" would be an example of that.
Then I also measured a man with identification number WK842/4 (191 127 401 B).
This is a filter designed for older models like the Golf 2 and Golf 3, among others, and it replaces the original "Knackfrosch" filter with part number 191 127 247 A, which does not include the sealing ring.
The zero ring is located here on the filter.
The diameter was 10.3 mm. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Thank you, Steffen.
If they are identical to Ufi 24 391 00, then for the male, the "frog" (presumably referring to a measurement or component) would need to be tighter, with 10.3 mm fitting into a space designed for 10.5 mm. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Theoretically, yes. I could send you one of those filters sometime to get more accurate results if you want to try it out and happen to have another car in the workshop.
I only have our Sharan, so I don't have anything to compare it to. My Passat has the filter (WK842/11) with the cooling unit on top, and it doesn't have this valve. Just let me know, and I'll get started. Passat Variant BGW 2005
