A stiff or sticking mechanism is not normal.
There should be only a very slight, easily overcome, spring force felt.

IMO, this is likely a false error message, and the engine would shut down for safety reasons.

In my opinion, this could only be the case if the minimum travel limit were defined by the free travel path of the main slide (zero position).
I suspect

, but that both mechanical stops are realized through a rotational angle limitation in the main spindle unit (MSW).
Because this would likely be better suited to absorb the "powerful" impacts during the signal box inspection than to transmit the force through the governor slide eccentric.
So far, I hadn't disassembled a pump before.
