Hello, dear TD community,

Four weeks ago, I accidentally hit a rabbit with my car. Since then, when the engine is running and the car is stationary, the steering wheel has been making a creaking noise (like metal rubbing on metal) whenever I turn it slightly around the center position. My VW workshop subsequently replaced the steering rack/power steering pump, tie rod ends, and various small parts.
After four weeks have passed, this noise has reappeared.
He doesn't leak any servo oil (or any other fluids).
It doesn't happen while driving.
The master craftsman is now at a loss as well.

Is the noise concerning, or can someone give me a clue about a possible source of the problem?

Passat TDI PD, manufactured in 2000, with 100,000 km mileage.

Thank you.

Hello,

Was the steering damper also replaced, or did you check it?
The steering damper is a small gas-filled shock absorber and is mounted on the steering gear.
Tschüss

Thank you for the answer. icon_smile.gif

The following parts were replaced. (I'm omitting things like screws, clips, etc.)

Track head.
Steering mechanism.
Spoiler
Wheel rim.

There is nothing listed on the invoice regarding a steering damper.
Could this part be defective and therefore causing the noises?
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the technology. Is this part important, or can...?
Can you drive a few kilometers with the defective part?

I'll stop by the Volkswagen workshop next week and ask them about it.

Thank you again.
