Golf 4 Fuel Sensor for Golf 3

Hello!
I'm considering installing a fuel level sensor from a Golf 4 TDI into my 3er TDI. I need a new fuel level sensor anyway, and since I've just installed a speedometer from a Golf 4, it would be better to use a compatible sensor, as the fuel gauge works in the opposite direction in the 3er Golf. The fuel level sensor from the Golf 4 is also attached with that large black cap, and the fuel capacity is the same as in the 3er. So, it should be possible to install this sensor, right?
Has anyone ever done this before, or compared both devices to each other? I would appreciate a quick response!
