Has anyone ever installed an ESP system from a late-model Golf 4 with VE-ESP and 110 horsepower into a 1994 Golf 3 with a 1Z engine?
Mechanically, the ESP fits perfectly, but my problem is controlling the pump. In the Golf 4, there's a rectangular connector with 10 pins on the ESP, while in the Golf 3, the connector only has 8 pins.
Is there a way to operate the ESP using a suitable "interface"? Does anyone have the pin assignments for the two different versions?
The background is that the ESP pump in my Golf is slowly starting to leak, and I have a new Golf 4 ESP pump available. Additionally, this one has a noticeably larger and initially steeper cam disc. In the 1Z pump, I only measured a total piston stroke of 2.5 mm, while in the Golf 4 pump, I measured 3.1 mm. Both have a 10 mm high-pressure piston.
