Hi!

My car (a 4-series) had a small water leak near the passenger-side door today due to the bad weather.
I saw it, a small stream of water, coming from near the passenger door, about a quarter of the way from the front, and running over the inner plastic trim of the rocker panel.
It ran into the footwell.

I checked the door seals, and they are completely undamaged.
The water drainage channels in the door are also clear.

Does anyone have any ideas, or know of a common vulnerability?
Grüße, Steffen!

The foam rubber seal on the door's carrier is deteriorating.

Finding the source of the water leak should be relatively simple. Get an assistant and a garden hose. One person should observe the interior door sill trim, while the other starts watering the vehicle, beginning at the door.

Theoretically, yes, it's annoying when water first runs along coverings and edges inside, before dripping out somewhere completely different. icon_wink.gif

The only solution then is to dismantle everything and trace the steps back.

It is definitely the casting that acts as the aggregate carrier, as previously mentioned.
Simply use this sealant/paste (e.g., an original VW replacement part) and it should be fine. The tricky part is the handle attachment and the reinstallation of the cylinder lock. However, it should be easier to do on the passenger side.

Hello!

Thank you for the answers.

So, I already repaired something on the door a few years ago, which is a starting point.

Today, we washed the car with the hose; my father held the hose, and I used a flashlight inside the car.
However, after 10 minutes, nothing was visible.

Well, I'll keep an eye on it.
Let's dust the suspicious area near the door.
Perhaps I'll see some signs of water there sometime.
So that I can tell whether it's coming from the door panel or not.
Grüße, Steffen!

Hello everyone,

There used to be an online guide from Seat for the same problem on the Leon. It used a black sealing strip, part number "AKD 497 010 04R10", to reseal it. I used the same method, and it's been holding up for several years.
(If not already done, it's best to also replace the front window regulators at the same time).

Additional water sources in the "4er" category would be:
- Front water reservoir: Leak between the pollen filter housing and the water reservoir cover (located in the passenger footwell).
- Rear taillight seal leaking.
- Seal of the forced ventilation system is leaking.
- Sunroof drain tubes are clogged/dislodged.
