Hello,

I would like to buy a thread repair kit because the threads often fail on weekends, and it's always difficult to borrow something then icon_sad.gif.

Okay, here's the translation:

'Now my question: Which would you recommend, Helicoil or Time Sert from Würth? Has anyone here worked with both, so that they can offer a comparison?'

In terms of price, Würth is considerably more expensive, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better.

Thank you.

Regards,

Pure.

Hi Reiner,

I had Helicoil threads installed into my defective glow plug threads (steel into aluminum) -> they work perfectly (and only require 15 Nm of torque). It depends on what kind of stresses they are exposed to icon_question.gif.

I purchased V-Coil inserts from Völkel in Remscheid (www.voelkel.com) because Helicoil sets were unavailable. These inserts use springs wound to match the thread pitch. I've used them to 'repair' two spark plug threads and one thread for the timing chain tensioner. It was all straightforward, and they hold up well to tightening torque! The tool set for each thread type costs approximately 30 euros.
