Hi.
My 2.0 TDI Octavia 1Z with DPF (BMM) performs a particle filter regeneration every 400km. I mostly drive on country roads and the DPF is always around 8-10% (as shown by VCDS). Is it normal for the system to initiate a regeneration every 400km before the DPF reaches 40%, or do I have a problem? The DPF warning light has never come on, and the differential pressure sensor is new. Octavia 1Z2.0 TDI 4x4 2008

Hello,
For many EDC16 engine control units (I cannot speak for all of them, as I haven't checked them all), the regeneration of the filter occurs based on two criteria:
- x km driven or x hours driven.
- Filling level determined using a differential pressure sensor and a calculation model.
If you tend to drive cautiously, it's possible that the first reason applies.
If you have the opportunity (on the highway): I've found that, when driving on a highway with no speed limit, it's more fuel-efficient to accelerate fully up a long incline than to drive slowly at 100 km/h in a fuel-efficient manner.
However, you will have to determine for yourself whether this is possible and makes sense for you.
Because with a sufficiently long stretch of road where you can drive at full throttle and achieve corresponding exhaust temperatures, the filter regenerates automatically during normal operation, rather than later, when it requires a lot of fuel to do so at 100 km/h on a flat road.
With my BRE engine, it doesn't offer any advantages to always drive slowly; occasionally, you can also give it a strong and sustained amount of throttle without consuming significantly more fuel than calculated based on the tank filling.
However, short bursts of full acceleration are counterproductive because they only fill the filter more quickly and do not reach the temperature threshold required for regeneration in the DPF.
Best regards, Rainer.

My Passat 3C, manufactured in 2008, with a BMP engine, also regenerates its DPF every 400 km, despite a driving profile of 2 x 75 km daily (50% country road at 100 km/h, 50% highway at 140 km/h). It now has 220,000 km on the odometer.
Therefore, I'm going to say that this is normal.
Greetings.
Guste.

I agree; my CBBB does this almost regularly at around 385 km. Gruß
