hi,
I've had a Golf PD with 115 horsepower and a 6-speed transmission since 2000. My car now has 100,000 km on the odometer, and everything is working fine!
'Our company car...is exactly the same, but as a station wagon. I've been using it for a few days now, and I've noticed that the company's golf (with roughly the same mileage) has more torque when starting. It's really only noticeable when starting; I have to give my car a lot more gas. My wife has laughed several times because I've stalled our car going uphill... I have to say, I've been driving diesel for 10 years, and that hasn't happened often... but after experiencing the difference with the company car, I understand why. I almost have to play with the gas and clutch like I'm driving a gasoline car to get my car moving uphill!'
What could be the reason... air filter... or something else???
Is there perhaps a simple reason?
The air mass sensor, timing belt, and fuel filter have already been replaced at 60,000 km!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

hi histe,
I have the same engine in my Bora, and I can confirm that. I'm going to do a test drive and check the values of the MAF sensor; let's see if I can find the error .
Perhaps it's simply normal error tolerance in the engines!?!

@hueso,
I would really appreciate it... the difference is already quite significant... I can't imagine that this is normal... but I don't notice any difference while driving!
I'm surprised that no one is saying anything about this... I usually get quick answers... and so far, those answers have always been much better than the ones I've gotten from the VAG workshops!

Hi!
Unfortunately, I don't have a solution. However, I can confirm that the 115 model definitely doesn't have any issues with low torque. I personally drive an AJM engine with 285 Nm in a large A4, and I often have to be careful not to let the wheels spin when starting from a standstill.
If you experience a noticeable lack of power when starting, that is certainly not a manufacturing tolerance!

I had the same AJM engine in my Passat Variant and experienced the same problem. It was particularly bad when the air conditioning was running. You had to rev the engine to around 2500 RPM just to get going properly.
For me, it was the mass airflow sensor (MAF). I replaced it, and the problem stopped.

hi,
I've also had problems with the mass airflow sensor before... but I only noticed it on the highway... this time, I'm only having problems when starting the car... is it possible to measure what's causing this...? What about the catalytic converter...? Did I have trouble getting the readings last time during the inspection? I don't want to replace anything without a proper diagnosis!
Thank you for the tips.

Simply connect the VAG-COM and measure the air mass. I don't need to explain how to do that; it's already described in this forum. If you don't have a VAG-COM, ask your local Volkswagen/Audi dealer, ATU, or any other independent workshop; they will definitely be able to help you.
And besides that, you can find everything else about it here in the forum.
