@klahauiViewing profile: klahaui: Both. The HEX-NET can function as an access point on its own, or it can be integrated into an existing Wi-Fi network.

Best regards, Rainer.

Prices for VCDS-Mobile, HEX-NET:

There will be two versions: a more affordable one with a limit of 10 vehicle identification numbers (VINs), and a workshop version without any VIN limit.

VCDS-Mobile, HEX-NET available in the shop: https://shop.dieselschrauber.org/en/vcds-hex-net-p-327.php

Is there a possibility of switching from a cable connection to a Wi-Fi connection?
Best regards, Frank.

Hello Frank,

Let's see, we're considering how to best handle our existing customers who purchased a system from us in the last 12 months.

Anyway, there's no way we're going to give away a 10-year-old cable and replace it with the latest version for free. You're unlikely to get a brand-new A6 4G from the manufacturer in exchange for an Audi A6 4B with 500,000 km, even for a small amount of money... I'm also not entirely clear why I should, figuratively speaking, fill the showroom with Audi cars that have 500,000 km on them.

The current HEX-USB+CAN interface will continue to be supported by VCDS.

Best regards, Rainer.

For my part, I would like to replace my 3-meter cable with a Wi-Fi adapter.
Do not set the new price to zero.
But you could consider implementing a tiered system.
Cables younger than 6 months: xxx Euro surcharge.
Cables older than 6 months: xxx Euro surcharge.
Older than 2 years... etc.
That would restrict the use of those 500,000 kilometer Audis.
icon_smile.gif
Furthermore, cables and connectors also age and are subject to wear and tear.
Please understand this as a suggestion and not a demand.

And another question:
If the Wi-Fi works in the garage, does that generally mean the connection to our adapter will also work?
Best regards, Frank.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your suggestion; yes, it will likely work something like that.

It is important for me to explain what is not, because there are people who are seriously still using cables from 2006, and after 10 years of free updates, new features, and improvements, they are getting upset because they "only" need the new "cable"... that's not how it works.

Regarding the Wi-Fi in the garage: It's possible, but not necessarily essential. The HEX-NET can also function as a dedicated Wi-Fi access point, which is selectable.
Therefore, there doesn't necessarily need to be Wi-Fi in the garage.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, I'm happy with my cable – I can even leave it plugged in while driving. I do have a laptop tray in the center console, which I guess not everyone has.
The new adapter seems quite long - I wonder if it will get stuck or wobble while driving, and potentially come loose? A loose connection or intermittent contact, especially just before it falls out, wouldn't be good for the control unit.
"If there was perhaps an extension cable available, so that you could place the adapter somewhere around the corner (e.g., in the storage compartment under the steering wheel)?"

Don't worry, neither of them fell out, and it wouldn't be bad for "that" control unit (which one?). icon_wink.gif

Hello Rainer,

Can you please explain the mobile restriction of 10 FINs to me?
Does this restriction only apply for one day? What happens when I scrap or sell my vehicle?

Thank you very much.
...

Hello,

The restriction applies to 10 vehicle identification numbers (VIN) per interface for workshop services . Autoscan, viewing measurement values, reading and clearing error codes "consumes" no vehicle identification number.
Coding, customization, login issues, service delays, etc. – so, basically, workshop work.

Once the 10 vehicle identification numbers (VINs) are "filled," workshop services can only be performed for the VINs that have been registered beforehand.

Ten Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) should be more than enough for personal use; who owns ten cars? Even if someone has a "5" device, they can still perform coding on 5 other vehicles, and they can read the error memory of the control units in an unlimited number of vehicles.

For those who perform service/workshop work on more than 10 vehicles, there is the unlimited product variant. The product variant can be selected at the bottom left of the product description.

It is also possible to unlock additional vehicle identification numbers (VINs) on the HEX-V2 or HEX-NET even
after the fact.

Best regards, Rainer

I received further inquiries regarding the commissioning of the Ross-Tech HEX-NET®.

So, the HEX-NET can, if you want, be used in the same way as the previous HEX-USB+CAN, simply by connecting it via USB. There's nothing else to consider; just install the software, plug it in, and you're done.

Most likely, the connection to VCDS will be established via Wi-Fi on the computer, as this eliminates the wear and tear on the USB cable and avoids having any disruptive cables running through the car. To do this, in the VCDS program settings, set "Net" as the connection type.
From that point on, the HEX-NET can be used normally, as if it were connected via a cable.

Furthermore, the software can be used via VCDS-Mobile®, for example, for on-the-go access using a smartphone. To do this, type the IP address of the HEX-NET device into the web browser on your smartphone.

*) The following questions arise regarding these two latter types of use and connections:
- What is the IP address of HEX-NET?
- The HEX-NET needs to be accessible. How do I configure the Wi-Fi connection to the HEX-NET?

The IP address of the HEX-NET is, by default, 192.168.0.1. You can find the IP address by connecting the HEX-NET to the PC via USB and starting the HEX-NET configuration tool.

The easiest way to operate the HEX-NET is as a Wi-Fi Access Point (AP), which is the default setting. In this process, HEX-NET creates a Wi-Fi network with its own serial number as the name (see the image below).
Connect the device to the computer, and then you can use HEX-NET either with VCDS on the computer or with VCDS-Mobile.
VCDS-Mobile is accessed by entering the IP address of HEX-NET as a URL in the web browser; the HEX-NET default password is password.

The HEX-NET can also be integrated into an existing Wi-Fi network, which is useful for workshop operations. This requires some basic knowledge of IP and networking. There will be a tutorial or video about this later.

The switch that determines whether the HEX-NET operates as an access point or attempts to integrate into other Wi-Fi networks is located on the red button on the interface.
Just press and wait briefly. When searching for Wi-Fi on your computer, it will appear as an access point and a separate network. Each button press switches to the next Wi-Fi profile, and multiple profiles can be configured.

Best regards, Rainer.

Here's a new commissioning video for HEX-NET. Since the configuration tool has been updated, an update will be available soon.

HEX-NET Wifi Setup:

The VCDS software comes with the VCDS interface configuration program, which is used to set up the Wi-Fi for the HEX-NET. You can find the latest version of the VCDS software at http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/account.php (your customer account on the Diselschrauber shop).

There are 2 different Wi-Fi modes for the HEX-NET. It can function as an access point, creating its own Wi-Fi network, or as a client, connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network.

The HEX-NET does not need to be connected to a vehicle to set up the Wi-Fi. Connect your HEX-NET to your laptop using the included USB cable.

Start the VCDS software. Click the [Settings] button, and then click the [Connection Test] button. You should receive a message indicating that the interface has been found and identified as HEX-NET. Click [OK].

Now, click the "Configuration" button to open the VCDS interface configuration program (VCIConfig.exe). Go to the WiFi tab.

HEX-NET scans for Wi-Fi networks and then lists the results.

Select your Wi-Fi network, confirm with "Yes," and then enter the password. Click [OK].

HEX-NET is attempting to establish a connection to the selected network. When the HEX-NET is connected to your Wi-Fi network in infrastructure mode, the middle LED will light up green.

Click the "Refresh Interface List" button at the top.

The Overview tab displays the Wi-Fi network that the HEX-NET is connected to, as well as the IP address that your Wi-Fi router assigns to the HEX-NET.

The HEX-NET can be configured to connect to up to 7 different Wi-Fi networks.

Is there somewhere I can see what it looks like on a smartphone?
I would be interested if I could see 4 or 6 fields on my smartphone display.
"KM since last regeneration", "loading factor", "residual ash mass", "regeneration status"...
Is that even possible?
There's a cheap part circulating in the forum for my car (Skoda Yeti) right now.
which actually works very well with.
As a loyal RKS customer, this icon_smile.gif is obviously not an option for me.

Hi,

I took a look at the "cheap part," but it seems the vehicle support only applies to certain models.

In my opinion, VCDS-Mobile itself is essentially an alpha-beta version, and I recommend using the PC software for working with it. Whether VCDS-Mobile will be successful remains to be seen. Try it out; any Android or iOS device with Wi-Fi is compatible.

Best regards, Rainer.
