Hello. I'm new here and maybe someone can help me. I need to replace the timing belt on my A3 TDI 90 hp (ALH), manufactured in March 2001. Does anyone have the dimensions of the locking pin for the fuel injection pump or the setting gauge for the camshaft? Are there any tips for blocking the crankshaft? Thank you in advance. Best regards.

I consider the questions about the dimensions for the centering pin and the adjustment gauge as a good suggestion for a technical article, or what do you think?
How about listing the most important dimensions here, so that anyone can potentially have a specialized tool made?

I'm thinking about this further, for example, considering the dimensions for impact tools and similar items in the suspension area. What do you think about that?
I could, for example, contribute a small technical sketch of my adjustable gauge for the AGR engine, if desired.

Regards,
Alex.

"Fachartikel" sounds good.

Here's the information quickly.
The thorn has a diameter of 15.45 mm.

Ruler for your cam.
Height 14.8 (4.5)
Total depth: 15 (4.7)

The mass indicated in parentheses refers to the weight of the protruding part that fits into the cam.

Photos will be available tomorrow (I have the digital camera in the car and it's cold outside icon_wink.gif).

m;

PS: I got the mass from the "Jetzt helf ich mir selbst" guide for the G2 diesel engine.
I had the parts made from aluminum (thank you, university workshop icon_wink.gif).

The size of the alignment pin for the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) doesn't fit my 2001 TDI (ALH) engine. Sorry. Thank you anyway. Maybe someone else will be able to help. Best regards.

Hello,

The tool shown is used with the 2001 ALH engine.

The pen has a diameter of approximately 6mm.
Unfortunately, the gauge for "older" TDI models can no longer be used.

Are there any differences between the 1998 ALH and the 2001 model?

"In the repair manual for my ALH engine, a different type of alignment tool is described. It has the VW part number 3418 and is shaped like a horizontal 'E'. The central rib then engages with the camshaft."

Approximately like this:

I have the measurements at home; I can send them to you this evening.

Oops.

Forget my ASCII sketch; it looks kind of weird after I posted it. The spacing seems to have changed.

Hello,

These tools are still used, for example, in "older" TDI models.
The marking pin is significantly larger here.

The measurements I provided were specifically for those tools (2064 and 2065(A)).

Hello,

I've never seen a T10098 before, but it definitely seems to be something.
to eliminate the need to remove the valve cover.
This only works with the newer TDI models.

If we keep the purpose of the necessary tools in mind...

And of course, a diagnostic tester for dynamic injection timing testing!

Thank you for your contributions. One more question for Michael II. Your camshaft alignment tool is brilliant because it eliminates the need to remove the valve cover. My question is: If the crankshaft marking aligns and the fuel injection pump rotor can be locked with a locking pin, is cylinder number 1 at TDC (Top Dead Center)? Or does it need to be rotated another 180 degrees? Normally, you can tell this by the camshaft of the first cylinder. Is there a way to tell this even if the valve cover remains on? Best regards.

Here are some part numbers for various tools from the company Klann, specifically for TDI engines with VP37 injection pumps:

KL-0280-8 Fuel injection pump locking pin.
KL-0280-9: Camshaft alignment tool (alignment gauge).
KL-0129-11 Measuring dial adapter, 65 mm, for fuel injection pump.
KL-0284-9 Key for adjusting the tensioner.
KL-0282-3: Holding key for camshaft pulley.

Here are the pictures of my rulers (they were for a Golf 2 Diesel JP, but they should also fit a 1Z).
