I would leave the null rings for now. The logic seems to be sound so far.
If the upper or middle sealing ring in a pressure differential equipment (PDE) were leaking now, it would show high negative values on the corresponding injector (and those upstream of it) because the forward pressure would drop. However, that is not what is happening. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Based on your statement, I assume that the logging was done correctly. Then we can leave it alone for now.
Okay, so on Thursday I'm going to replace the windshield washer fluid reservoir with one from Audi instead of an aftermarket part. Is there anything specific I need to be aware of when replacing it? This would be the first time I'm doing this myself.
Then, a friend who is training to become a master mechanic discovered that the EGR pressure sensor is defective. The EGR also seems to be leaking oil significantly, and it's recently started producing more soot and has a strong odor. So, I ordered a new EGR unit directly from a parts supplier. I should be able to replace it myself since there are only five screws involved. At the same time, I'll also replace the two vacuum hoses; they don't look very good in some places either.
So, as mentioned before, there are currently no problems parking with the front of the car facing downwards in the morning. Today, he will park it that way again, hoping that it will start tomorrow morning because his wife needs the car. Tomorrow, he will try parking it the other way around, and then he'll be curious to see if it starts.
Best regards,
Florian

I no longer buy fuel filters from the accessory shops because I've never had one that was leak-free. For the same reason, I only use Bosch diesel filters. But this is just my personal opinion.
You need to pay attention to three things:
- New oxygen sensor rings for the frog, one blue and one black. But those are already installed if you buy a new one from Volkswagen.
-Moisten the O-rings with diesel fuel before inserting them into the filter.
-The arrow on the "Knackfrosch" (likely a type of valve or connector) must point backwards, towards the tank. Passat Variant BGW 2005

You probably mean MWB023.
I've never looked at this before when replacing the O-rings. VCDS

Yes, that's what I mean. These are the timing values for the solenoid valves in the pump-injector unit. If there is air in the relevant injector, the needle will have less resistance and the valve will close faster. This can be seen as high negative values in the MWB23 diagnostic tool. However, there are different generations of injectors that have different default timing values. The 1.1 versions are slightly faster than the 1.3 versions. And the 1.5 versions are even more so because they are installed in vehicles with a DPF and also need to be able to handle the post-injection during regeneration. But that's just a side note. This doesn't apply here. This one has 1.3 injectors up to model year 2002 and 1.1 injectors after that. Values from -10 to +30 are normal for this type. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Ah, so, you were asking about the EGR valve. It's basically just the three screws for the intake manifold, one of which is a bit fiddly, and the two screws for the connecting pipe to the manifold. New gaskets would be good, specifically for that pipe and the O-ring for the intake manifold. These usually come included with a new EGR valve. No basic adjustment or anything like that needs to be done on an AVF engine. Passat Variant BGW 2005

Thank you for your explanations and help! I'm sure I'll figure it out, thankfully I'm not completely helpless.
This morning, the Audi started up like a brand new car. Tonight, I'll do the test with the exhaust pointing upwards, and then check it again early tomorrow morning. If it doesn't start, there must be a leak somewhere, right? Or am I mistaken?
Okay, everyone's here, and everything will be replaced first thing tomorrow morning.
Okay, I'm also not sure about that "Knackfrosch" thing; it wasn't even a cheap part. But anyway, I just got the AGR valve, the "Knackfrosch," and both hoses that connect to the AGR from Audi.

Here's a small but very important tip from me:
If it doesn't start next time, try turning on the lights. Either the parking lights or the low beam headlights. (Of course, before starting the engine).
Sometimes, the miracle . There used to be a Technical Problem Investigation (TPI) related to this because the bus communication was causing some issues during the startup process.
For me, it was a 100% hit back then.
Good luck.

Okay, everything's done! So, what I can say is... the EGR valve was in such a terrible condition, I've never seen anything like it. It was completely clogged with gunk. After replacing it, I took it for a 60km drive at full throttle, and guess what? The smoking and smell are gone. It runs smoother and has better acceleration now.
"The 'Knackfrosch' (presumably a specific part) has also been replaced. In my opinion, the old 'Knackfrosch,' which was supposedly replaced at the workshop, wasn't actually changed. The lower black seal was defective. Could air have leaked in through that? Also, what is the purpose of having two seals there?"
This morning, it started up again, contrary to my expectations. So now, I guess I should try to see if the problem reappears by continuing to park with the front of the car facing uphill.
