It sounds like solenoid valves to me.

I've definitely heard that noise from many TDIs from a distance and while driving past, especially from our newer lease cars within the company.

So, my Octavia Scout 2.0 CR TDI didn't make that 'knocking' noise. Neither when it was warm nor when it was cold.
I sold it a week ago and made sure to pay extra attention to it.
I now believe it's located in the high-pressure pump area.

The buzzing sound definitely comes from the air intake. If you press down firmly on the cyclone filter from above and also push the airbox backward, the noise disappears. I don't know what the technical solution is yet. The car is at the service center (fSH) today and tomorrow.

Do the Seat technicians have the same level of technical expertise and access to resources as their VW counterparts? The car is structurally identical to a Sharan.

Wow.

"Optimized" sounds completely different.
I thought you were referring to that dull, resonant hum.
But it's probably about the bright, ringing sound.

If it can be influenced by "physical manipulation" (i.e., moving parts), then the solution should be quite close to the parts that are being moved.

You always need someone who can push things forward.

I'm talking about 2 sounds. Perhaps I didn't express myself clearly enough.
I don't know how one sound might stimulate or influence another.

On one hand, I have a humming sound just above idle speed. This humming comes from the air intake and spreads throughout the passenger compartment. You constantly have to open your mouth to equalize the pressure in your ears, otherwise it feels like pressure. It vibrates the entire car.
It's a known issue from various forums. In this case, a simple touch can help. Specifically, I need to tighten the entire air intake system for it to be resolved.
Interestingly, my Octavia could have done the same. But I didn't drive it at 1100 RPM (even though the gear recommendation would have required it).
The Alhambra is a DSG (dual-clutch gearbox). It aggressively shifts into that gear. The only solution is to put it in 'S' mode. But then it immediately shifts back two gears...

On the other hand, I have a sharp, stabbing pain. I think it's coming from somewhere near the injection site.
I want to show this using the recordings.
I suspect the problem is located near the high-pressure pump. The mechanic wants to disconnect and re-tighten all the high-pressure lines and install vibration dampers. I'm not entirely convinced yet, but I don't think it's too far away.
This noise is not audible thanks to the extremely good insulation inside the Alhambra! However, you can hear it with an open window. I do, however, feel that the car has generally become louder. The current mileage is 1550 km.

Once you've heard the term 'optimized,' you'll also hear the 'problem' even in the unoptimized version. Thanks to Steinberg WaveLab... It's the identical recording...

However, when you're standing right in front of the engine, you can immediately tell that something isn't right, even without using an equalizer.

The dull noise has already been located and can be fixed.

Unfortunately, the point at which the noise (MP3) starts cannot be heard for long enough because the speed increases too quickly.

The same applies when it disappears again.

It sounds to me like it starts with a slight "ticking" sound, similar to a fuel injector.

Why hasn't the error from Seat been fixed yet?

Okay, the friendly technician said that the knocking sound is normal. We compared it to a Sharan, and the mechanic heard it there too, but I didn't. We were able to pinpoint the location pretty clearly. It seems to be coming from the valve at the top of the fuel rail, specifically the uppermost electrical connection. There's a sticker with a QR code on top. Could it be that? Does this valve operate in a timed manner? How much would it cost if I paid for it myself? Please, no discussion about whether you would pay for such a repair yourself under warranty.

Hello,

This is the fuel metering valve (N290) on the CP4 high-pressure pump, and I have no idea if it can be replaced so easily.

It could be used as a sound source, and it is controlled via PWM.

Tip for identification: Disconnect the connector and then check the fault memory of the relevant control unit using VCDS. icon_wink.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

At least for the CR injectors in the Golf VI, there is apparently a TPI (Technical Product Information) stating that the ticking sound of the metering valve during high-speed operation without load is not a defect...

Does that noise really bother you so much? Now that we can apparently rule out a defect, couldn't we just let it "tick" like that?

Hello,

My new Alhambra DSG with a 170 hp TDI engine was incredibly quiet for the first few kilometers.
Starting at 700 kilometers (presumably on the odometer), it became louder. I have a strong rumbling noise in the 1200 RPM range. Unfortunately, this noise cannot be recorded.
However, there's now also a snorting sound that can be clearly heard in the appendix.
(Microphone 30 cm away from the head. No body sounds picked up by the microphone.)

He only does that when it's warm. Currently, the odometer reads 1300 km.
Is that a normal operating sound?
I removed the engine cover, and it seems like the noise is coming from the head. There's nothing loose that I can see from the outside.

Thank you very much!

Hello Martin, how did you resolve that noise issue?

Hi,

Martin L. is no longer logged in. However, I can tell you how I fixed the rattling noise on my wife's A3: The new vehicle to replace the company's A6 will not be an Audi anymore. The rattling noise and some other, more serious issues, which I won't go into detail about, can be found elsewhere at a lower price.

You can try replacing the whistling valve, but of course, there's no guarantee that the new one won't whistle either...

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you for the response. I understand that they have changed. Fuel metering valve (N290).
