VW Golf 4 TDI: Turbocharger Problems & Overheating

Hello everyone.

A few weeks ago, I bought a Golf 4 (1999) with the 110hp AHF engine for my sister-in-law. It's her first car, and it was supposed to bring her joy. However, it's slowly driving me crazy.

The golf course was inexpensive, but it required a lot of work.
I replaced the clutch and flywheel. The old starter motor also came out at the same time.

Now, let's talk about the problems.
Nach Kupplungstausch hatte der Golf keinen Ladedruck mehr. Vtg wurde kontrolliert. It was easy to use.
The problem was a loose connection on the vacuum pump, so I replaced it. The check valve was also faulty and has been replaced. I also proactively replaced the mass airflow sensor (Bosch) because I wanted to avoid any further issues.

I went to the TÜV (German technical inspection agency) yesterday. Everything was okay with the exhaust emissions, but...

"This thing is still having those brief interruptions at 3000 RPM; it pauses for about 2 seconds and then kicks in again. It also smells too hot, and the exhaust pipe, including the turbo, has a strange light color. I'm worried that the engine will fail if I can't find the problem."

The only error code showing is related to the cold start injector, indicating a sporadic short circuit to ground. I've tested the part and the resistance values are within normal range. The wiring has also been checked for breaks or shorts all the way to the control unit.

Could it be that this valve is constantly injecting fuel and the engine control unit (ECU) is trying to compensate?

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with the '99 model (which does not support OBD2). However, the support key can be used as credit at any time for any product in the shop. For example, a HEX-V2 or, as listed under "Sales" in the forum, a used HEX-USB+CAN.
