Hello everyone,

I drive a 2004 A4 B6 2.5 TDI 180 hp quattro.
Now, regarding my problem:
"When I accelerate between 1600 and 2000 RPM, I hear a kind of grinding noise from the rear. This only happens when I'm increasing power; it doesn't occur with the standard power output. I've been told it might be the Hardy disc, but others say there isn't one."

Can someone enlighten me?

Best regards,
Tobi.

The rear differential might be worn out; I remember seeing that issue back in my Type 85 days.

That would be absolutely fantastic icon_sad.gif, and does that Hardy disc exist?

No.

The constant velocity joint (CV joint) has two universal joints.

I would recommend checking the oil levels and the condition of the oil in the center differential and the rear axle, and also looking for any signs of wear particles in the oil, as these could indicate wear on the bearings or gears.

We changed the oil a few months ago, and I didn't really pay close attention to the condition of the oil, but it looked honey-colored icon_wink.gif.

Hi!
From old times, from the BMWs of my friends...
I'm familiar with problems related to the bearing.
Specifically, there was an intermediate bearing on the body, within the tunnel where the driveshaft passes, and this bearing was generously housed in a type of rubber boot.
If the rubber was worn out, or the bearing inside it, the drive would also make a rumbling noise under load.

I don't know how much of that applies to your car.
But please check if there's a storage facility there.
Grüße, Steffen!

Hi there,

Cardan intermediate support is a good idea icon_smile_thumb_up.gif.

"Unfortunately, there's no individual part available, only the complete driveshaft."
The intermediate bearing with bracket is available as an accessory and is the same for all engine types in the B6 and B7 models.

Search for "8E0521101B" on eBay.

This part number is listed in the central warehouse, but it's not available at the Audi parts counter.

If you need to replace the central bearing, it is crucial to ensure the correct assembly of the joints. It is best to mark the original position beforehand with a punch mark.
