I'm writing back (unfortunately).
The repair using the special milling tool was carried out 2 1/2 years ago and has now covered approximately 50,000 km.
My Golf now has 510,000 km on the odometer, which is quite a respectable amount of mileage.
The car has been parked for a while now (about 2 months) because we are expecting twins, and my wife isn't using her car at the moment. That's why I've been driving her car more often.
On December 4th, the car was due for its technical inspection (TÜV), so I wanted to drive it a bit beforehand. On December 2nd, I drove to work and back. Then, on December 3rd, the car wouldn't start in the morning. It had the same symptoms as before: a lot of white smoke, a strong smell of unburned diesel, etc.
In the afternoon, I scanned for errors using VCDS, and the result was:
Error code 00575 - Intake manifold pressure 17-10 - intermittent.
Error code 00550 - Injection start control 17-10 - Regulation difference - intermittent.
So, I'm pretty sure the "killer bolt" has come loose again, which means the valve timing or injection timing is no longer correct.
The problem with the intake manifold pressure might actually be caused by a vacuum hose leak. I replaced that hose some time ago, but I didn't clear the error code. So, it could be an old error that's still showing up.
My problem: Unfortunately, I parked my Golf 200 meters away from home on the street. In my garage, I have my Mercedes "W124" with the transmission removed (the clutch needs to be replaced).
Therefore, my question is: Can VCDS detect incorrect valve timing and incorrect injection timing, even if the engine does not start (i.e., while it is cranking)?
I don't necessarily want to have to remove valve covers, etc., on the side of the road in order to read the values mechanically.
Also, the two girls could be born at any moment, and then I'll have to take on completely different responsibilities.
