Audi A8 Trailer Hitch Coding - Data Bus Error

I have installed a Westfalia trailer hitch and a vehicle-specific wiring harness on my Audi A8 4H2. Unfortunately, the fuse block No. 5, which is described in the wiring harness instructions as being located in the rear, is not present. Therefore, I made the connection to the first fuse block as required and obtained the remaining voltages from fuse blocks 4 and 6. I connected the bus line to the AHK (trailer hitch) control unit according to the instructions. The control unit is also correctly recognized, and I was able to adjust (almost) all of the AHK coding parameters, except for:

1) I can still correctly set the coding for the Gateway_19 (diagnostic interface) for trailers with the number 69.

"I am unable to set the EZE_09 electronic central electrical system control unit code because the provided access authorization code, 31347, does not work. Westfalia claims the code comes from Audi, and Audi claims it comes from Westfalia. The code also does not work on an A4 (supplied by Jäger), for which it should be valid."

How do I obtain the necessary authorization to install a trailer hitch that complies with the "under 10 - adaptation and networking" regulations?

"Now, in addition, the bus no longer recognizes my entire optical data bus in the rear; I had to remove all the connectors and relays in the back to be able to properly connect the additional cables. However, the Westfalia "illiteracy" documentary isn't very good, so I hope I haven't made any mistakes."

What could cause a complete interruption of the entire optical data bus? Unfortunately, I can't identify which cable is connected to which control unit, or whether this could be a consequence of the incorrect coding mentioned above. Neither the MMI nor various other components (see scan) are working. The optical data bus shouldn't be affected by the additional connectors, unless I accidentally loosened a cable for the optical coupling of the data bus? It must be located in the rear, which is the only area that was open.

Hello Mathias,

To encode the AHK on the A8, the correct CODE 20113} for control unit 09 must be used.

Please check if your installation instructions are for the MLB platform. There are several things to consider regarding the coding, especially for vehicles with features like camera systems and adaptive cruise control.

The optical data bus is quite easily damaged; even a small bend in the fiber optic cables can cause it to stop working properly.
Check the plug where you were connected to see if the cable is bent or damaged.

But the ring break diagnosis likely reveals my problem:

The diagnostic interface has a fault in the optical data transmission. I had to really struggle to get the fuse holders out from the back and rewire them.

I have a control unit with thick yellow cables located to the left of the fuses, which seems to connect to the MMI. Or, where is the connection for the diagnostic interface located?

If it's the blind plug to the right of the fuses, that's where I have the trailer hitch control unit plugged in, but it doesn't have a glass fiber connection.

I've attached two pictures that illustrate the scenario.

In your error scan, the radio is not accessible. Your sound system has an error on the MOST bus.

If the error didn't exist before, it's definitely related to your work.

If I interpret your photo correctly, the central control unit for the comfort system is located above the fuses. Behind that is the radio! Since you said you were "messing around" with it quite a bit, I would look for the problem there. The MOST bus is also located near the radio.

A slight kink in the fiber optic cable is enough to cause it to malfunction, even if a red light is still visible at the end of the cable. Using a test plug, you can disconnect the device from the bus and check whether the radio itself is faulty or if the cable is the problem.

What limitations or errors are currently present in the vehicle?

Can you please clear all the errors again and then display the scan results with the current errors?

Hi Michael, the scan you requested is currently showing no errors after I cleared all previous errors and re-initialized all the AHK components. If the radio is located behind the fuse box (the Bose unit is on the left side and is also connected via fiber optic cable to the MOST system), I can try disconnecting and re-checking it. I haven't actually accessed the radio yet, as it's located behind the fuse box. The radio is showing "OK" in the ring break diagnosis.

Everything related to the MMI is not working – from the camera to the ACC, radio, media, navigation, and even the climate control/rear sensors, because the sound system is neither electrically nor visually accessible."

Oh crap... it was so easy...
The top fuse on Pack 6, which is brown and rated at 30A, was blown. Unfortunately, reality didn't match the instructions, and I noticed this by comparing it to the pictures I took beforehand.
That was the fuse for the radio/sound system receiver. Without it, the MMI (Multi Media Interface) and the camera, as well as the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), etc., won't work.
At least, after that, the radio and navigation system immediately started working again.
However, I'm still encountering an error, and I can't activate any settings or the heated seat function in the MMI.
