@ flaufer
How did yours do?
Okay... I would say... it's just loud, like a traditional diesel engine... I got the impression that it's much louder than my old 1.9 TDI 81kW (I think it's an AFN). I partly attributed the noise (in terms of road noise) to the tires (245 size on 18' rims).
'All my passengers said, 'Wow, that's loud!' And when I was driving my rental car, a 1.6 Golf with just under 100 horsepower, I accidentally tried to start the engine multiple times because I couldn't even hear it.'
Unfortunately, I can't provide a precise description, I only know that the noise that ultimately led to the engine failure sounded as if it was coming from the transmission... somewhere low in the center.
Regards,
Felix.

'I'm experiencing a clicking sound when accelerating, specifically below 2000 RPM. However, you can only hear it when the window is down. Otherwise, the car is quite quiet; when the engine is warm, you can't hear the engine noise inside the car with the windows closed! You can't hear the clicking in my sound file (probably because the microphone was under the hood). I'm currently trying to figure out how to record the sound from the outside without getting wind noise in the microphone!'

Hello,
The V6 TDI engine, especially when cold, has a slightly harsher sound than the 4-cylinder engines. This is because the aluminum engine doesn't absorb sound as well as the cast iron engine of the 4-cylinder. However, when warm, it purrs like a bee in your father's A6, possibly due to better sound insulation. It might be helpful if you record the sounds inside your car; it's difficult to compare them otherwise. Although that hissing sound does sound a bit strange. But I haven't listened inside the engine compartment while driving, and it's probably more likely to be due to the recording, as you would have noticed other symptoms by now. If everything else is technically fine, try lining the firewall with a felt mat (simply cut appropriate holes in the mat and slide it in). I did that in a Golf 3 once; it took some fiddling, but it really made a difference.
Greetings.
Jean.

So, if everything else is technically in order, try lining the motor splash guard with a felt pad (simply cut appropriate holes in the pad and slide it in).
I've had something like that on the hood (I think that's what you mean) since the beginning of time. It's a bit crusty in one spot, probably from the auxiliary heater... and it probably does something.
Regards,
Felix.

'If you can fit anything else in the engine compartment of the A4 V6 TDI, I can't. There's literally no more room, not even a mat. I was trying to install a parking heater, but it won't fit either!'

If you can fit anything else into the engine compartment of the A4 V6 TDI,........ I can't,..... there's not even room for a mat anymore,... I wanted to install a parking heater,..... but that definitely won't fit either!
I have an Eberspächer installed. It's even in a Quattro/Tiptronic model with Xenon headlights (and a large windshield washer fluid reservoir).
Bosch Dienst Blickle in Mannheim took care of it. They initially scratched their heads about it...
The initial approach was to attach a more robust bracket to the rear axle, which is sometimes done with camper vans.
Then he came up with the idea of a split Eberspächer model...
Wait a moment...
http://www.eberspaecher.de/de/heiz/tech/wheiz/daten/daten.htm
This is a D5 W S model that I have... it seems like you can install the pump and burner separately.
The total cost, including installation (timer and radio receiver + remote control), was just over €1400 (this was in November 1999).
Good luck!
Regards,
Felix.
P.S. The installation location is almost directly on the engine, on the driver's side.

'The thing about the standing wave sounds really interesting... The Bosch service here crawled under the car three times, rummaged around in the engine compartment, and said there's no chance... except maybe by putting the battery in the trunk (but that's a joke for an Avant).'
Thank you very much... I will confront him with this!
I have a similar configuration to yours.
Audi A4 Avant 2.5 TDI (manufactured in 2000), quattro, xenon headlights, headlight cleaning system, large water tank, etc.
What is the year of manufacture of yours?

My configuration is similar .
Year of manufacture: 1999. Otherwise, only the Tiptronic transmission is included.
Regards,
Felix.
P.S. But my engine is completely broken -> see the other thread.
