Hello, we were just told that the timing belt on our SDI (Ibiza '01) needs to be replaced at 60,000 km. I don't understand this at all. WHY?
It's not a 16V or a turbo, or did they get that wrong?

It's certainly possible, as VW has, to my knowledge, switched between suppliers in the past, which led to quality issues. They now have a better supplier again, and the interval is back to 90,000 km. However, someone else can provide more detailed information about the model years in which this problem occurred.

Best regards, WarLord.

I was already driving a Polo SDI when the timing belt broke. It actually should have lasted for another 5,000 km...

Yes, 60,000 km is correct, at least for the 1.7 SDi with 60 hp (engine code: AKU).

The timing belt on my Polo broke at 56,000 km!

That's not entirely true either.

The AKU (vehicle inspection) has two different intervals, depending on the vehicle's year of manufacture.

Sometimes it's 60,000 km, sometimes 90,000 km!!!

Make sure to ask the dealer and follow up!
A change is always better than a crack!

Sure, thanks.
The dealer or mechanic said that it should be replaced every 60,000 km.
but you make us feel anxious (Polo with 56,000 km, crack!), because ours will also be reaching 56,000 km soon. icon_redface.gif
'But isn't that unusual? My Corsa 1.4 with 60 horsepower is supposed to need it at 120,000 km?'

Okay, so this engine in the Seat Arosa has 90,000 kilometers on it. Definitely.

hi,
Look at this.
This is officially for VW.
I'm not sure to what extent that applies to SEAT.
greetings

And as can be clearly seen, the AKU (vehicle inspection) records show that the mileage was 60,000 km as of May 2000.
The AKU model, starting with the MJ 01 production year, has service intervals of 90,000 kilometers.

As a note, the Polo underwent its model change from the 6N to the 6N2 in December 1999, which corresponds to the 2000 model year.
So, you cannot determine the interval based on the outermost points.

And as can be clearly seen, the AKU (annual vehicle inspection) up to MJ 00 (June 2000) shows 60,000 km.
The AKU, starting with model year 2001, has 90,000 km service intervals.

Does anyone happen to know what modifications were made to the engine?

Where could I get this information?

Google couldn't help me.

'Thank you, Ingo.'
