I want to deactivate the passenger airbag in my Golf IV (year 2001) because of a child seat. Does anyone know how to do this, and whether it's possible?
whether or not you need a resistor for the airbag connector.
I have a VAG-COM 310.
Best regards.

Hello!
I also had the passenger airbag deactivated upon purchase of my Golf in January 1995 because I needed to install a car seat.
After my child grew older, I reactivated his account.
Every time, it was a huge deal, and a report had to be filed with the factory.
Since (around 1997), when a child was killed in an accident (the airbag was supposedly deactivated, but allegedly it hadn't been), VW supposedly no longer allows the deactivation of airbags.
Therefore, don't believe that you can have it deactivated in a 'legal' way.
Good luck anyway.
Best regards, D.

hi,
For my Passat '98, I had the side airbags deactivated, perhaps the procedure is similar: The connector at the seat is opened, and then a jumper plug is inserted.
(20 EUR for each resistor) and something needs to be changed in the control unit (40 EUR). This means the airbag no longer has any electrical connection; the airbag connector is designed so that its contacts are shorted when it's opened...

Since (approximately 1997), after a child lost their life in an accident (the airbag was supposedly not deactivated, even though it was allegedly supposed to be), VW supposedly no longer allows the deactivation of the airbag.
As far as I know, only 'deactivation via laptop' is prohibited.
A replacement resistor must be installed.
Then, essentially, nothing more can happen, as the airbag no longer has a connection to the safety system.

As far as I've heard, the following happened:
The passenger airbag was deactivated, but for some reason, the airbag control unit was in a kind of emergency mode at the time of the crash. This was also indicated by a yellow light during startup, which was ignored.
This emergency program, in the event of a crash, will trigger all airbags and ignore other safety parameters.
I don't know the details, only this story, which reportedly arose after lengthy investigations involving disturbing speculations (such as induction caused by a bursting battery, etc.).
This would explain why euthanasia based on diagnosis is prohibited, and why the life support systems must be disconnected at the same time.

Hello everyone...
Okay, so I just disconnected the passenger airbag in my Galaxy.
Of course, the warning light will then illuminate, but in the event of an accident, the driver would still trigger the airbag.
Even my Ford dealer advised me to do that.
Best regards,
MIkl

In 1995, after deactivating it, the airbag warning light did not illuminate. For safety reasons, a bright red sticker was placed on the dashboard on the passenger side, with the inscription 'Caution! Passenger airbag deactivated.'
According to the workshop's information, the airbags, unlike in 1995, can no longer be deactivated, even though it's the same vehicle model.
