Hello everyone,
I have a question about the mass airflow sensor (MAF). I've already replaced the MAF sensor in my Passat TDI 90 hp three times, and it's failing again. Cleaning it doesn't help. Since the MAF sensor is now available as a replacement part, and it's cheaper, I'm curious, as an electronics technician, what exactly is failing in this part. If Bosch offers it as a replacement part, meaning they're repairing it, shouldn't we be able to do it ourselves? Has anyone of you performed any MAF sensor repairs, other than cleaning? I would be grateful for a tip.
Best regards, Franz.

Perhaps you could include the part number or manufacturer's code so we're not talking about apples and oranges!

... and while we're at it, please also tell me about the km performance and any defects related to the mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor - why does this thing always fail so quickly??).

And your car?
The 028 mass airflow sensor can be a 1Z, an AFN in a 3A, or an AFN in a 3B.
Why was he/she/it changed?
and please don't answer "because it was broken"

What is the engine's model code? I don't know what to do with the Bosch number; I can't find it in my list.

@Joergs:
The Bosch Ecat system lists the following vehicle connections for Passat models:
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI - 10.96-11.00, 08.97- - 66 - 90 - 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI - 10.96-11.00, 08.97- - 66 - 90 - 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI - 10.96-11.00, 09.97- - 81 - 110 - 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI - 10.96-11.00, 09.97- - 81 - 110 - 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI Syncro/4motion 10.96-11.00 08.97- 81 110 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI Syncro/4motion 10.96-11.00 08.97- 81 110 1896
VW - PASSAT (3B2) - 1.9 TDI - 08.98-11.00 - 85 115 1896
Conclusion: It seems that virtually any type of engine could be involved...
@Franz:
As far as I know, these are only taken back for marketing purposes. They used to be much more expensive. Now, to justify the lower price, they are only offered at that price if you trade in an old device. Ultimately, VAG can't simply halve the price without admitting that they were charging exorbitant prices beforehand.
In my opinion, a repair (other than cleaning) is not possible.
Regards,
Private.

It could be an HFM2 or an HFM5. !!!
I don't think we can move forward without MKB.
In my opinion, repairing the hfm5 would not be possible!

An HFM5 with a license plate number starting with "028"?
The 028 TDI engines were used in the G3 models, and as far as I know, only Pierburg fuel injectors were used with them, right?
I always thought the BOSCH system only came with the G4 and the 038 TDI engines.
(Could you please explain the difference between HFM2 and HFM5? I was only familiar with Pierburg vs. Bosch before.)

EDIT:
Ulf once wrote:

I have the old Pierburg unit "as a whole piece," meaning it's not the type with a small insert that can be removed. VAG number is 074 906 461.
The new LMMs (likely referring to Lambda sensors) for VP-TDIs probably have the VAG part number 028 906 461.
Can only these be replaced with the DC components?
|
Then I'll take back what I said above .
And I myself wrote:

The LMM (Mass Air Flow sensor) for my 1996 MJ 1Z costs 88 EUR for a replacement unit.
So, this is the replacement for the 074 906 461, which is the Pierburg part.
By the way, the original price was 180 EUR.

So, it's NOT a Pierburg!

Similar in design to the HFM5, it also features a plug-in sensor (with nearly identical dimensions) and, depending on the type, can measure an airflow rate of up to 1080 kg/h.
