Vehicle: Skoda Fabia Estate/Wagon, 1.9 TDI (PD).
I'm creating a fuel consumption statistic based on mileage and fuel used. Before the service, my average consumption was 4.8. Since the service (at 30,000 km), I've had a consumption of 5.6 over the last 5,000 km. The consumption has increased significantly since the service. I changed to winter tires 14 days prior, but there was no noticeable change in consumption.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could something have been adjusted during the service?
Okay, here's the translation:

Thank you.
Peter MH.

Hi,

Besides the usual maintenance items, was anything special done during the service, such as the timing belt?
Has the car been performing worse since then?

Otherwise... https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=5016

Best regards, Rainer.

The service was standard and didn't include anything special. The performance hasn't changed significantly.
Otherwise... https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=5016
Unfortunately, I can't find anything helpful using that link (maybe it's the wrong number?).
Thank you, Peter MH.

"It's quite strange, actually. What kind of oil was used? But that certainly wouldn't account for a 15% increase in fuel consumption."

Hi,

Are you sure you're not drawing a false correlation between consumption and service?

It seems that winter actually started around the time your car came in for service.

Based on my experience, I can say that my TDI consumes more fuel in the winter than in the summer (despite having air conditioning). It's about 0.5 liters per 100 km.

Just as an idea icon_idea.gif

Regarding the oil: this car has only ever used oil from DEA.
I also suspected a connection between the service and the winter conditions, which is why I had the car serviced after 5000 km. In the summer, the average fuel consumption was around 4.5 (using Poly 5). Currently, it's at 5.6. In the fall, we even had trips with two bicycles on the trailer, resulting in a fuel consumption of 5.5 over a total distance of 1000 km.

From your questions, I gather that it's impossible to accidentally change anything in the engine's electronics. With the fuel injection system on my scooter, I can adjust the characteristic parameters using a diagnostic tool. This seems to be impossible with a TDI engine.

Do you rely on the MFA (Multifunction Display) reading for fuel consumption, or do you calculate it yourself each time you refuel? Just a question, because there might be something wrong with the diagnostic reading from the VW (or Skoda) device... it's unlikely, but possible. Otherwise, I can't really imagine such a drastic increase in fuel consumption. Besides, my 96kW car always uses around 5.5 liters in everyday driving, and 4.5 liters would require a significant effort.

I always calculate fuel consumption based on the distance traveled and the amount of fuel used. The only information I take from the MFA (Multi-Function Display) is the average speed.
Now that it's getting warmer again, and I'm planning to do my usual 500km ride this weekend, let's see what happens.icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm not sure, but an improperly performed air filter replacement might dislodge dust in the air duct near the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which could then contaminate the sensor.
In other forums, it's also noticeable that the mass airflow sensor (MAF) often fails shortly after reaching 30,000 miles.
If you have reference values, you should measure the voltage at the mass flow meter (MFM) at maximum power and check if it is below the normal value.

Does anyone have reference voltages here?

Best regards,
Jürgen

Here's something to look at:

I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

... just an idea... If there are any leaks somewhere, the consumption will change drastically, but not necessarily the performance.

So, it seems the temperature is really the culprit when it comes to energy consumption. Since last weekend, I've been back to roughly my previous consumption levels – more or less abruptly. I'm going to try to statistically record the temperature during my trips.
However, the difference of almost 1 liter seems a bit high to me. I was also used to the fact that the fuel consumption changed with the tire change in my old Golf II (1.8 gasoline engine), but it was not affected by the temperature.
I will post this again when I have more statistics available.

Sure, we have the icon_wink.gif.

Mine is an ATD EZ 11/01 - 74kW TDI-PD model. The 96kW version is called the RS, but it's only available as a sedan.

Sure, here's the translation:

'ei freilisch...'
'ei freilich' translates to 'indeed' or 'certainly' in English.

Click on the Fabia RS as well. Is it the counterpart to Ulf's Polo? icon_wink.gif
