AFAIK, the terminal for the tachometer is different on "mechanical" diesel engines, so the part you have is probably not compatible with your TDI.
The load is generated by the runner voltage and can therefore be measured across both brush holders.
One of them is either controlled by the mass or battery positive terminal, while the other is controlled by the regulator. You can tap into the load signal there.
The question is whether it has the correct polarity for the motor computer, i.e., whether the unswitched coil is connected to + or -. . .
With incorrect polarity, the system will likely detect the opposite of the actual load level (high instead of low, and vice versa).
Then, perhaps an intermediate inverter stage could help (e.g., a transistor in an emitter configuration)... but that is
purely theoretical!
