Hello,

I've incorporated a few PD updates into the technical articles about common causes of errors (3 instances of idle surging and a camshaft that was incorrectly set from the factory, "mine").

I would especially like those with expertise in Parkinson's disease to read through this and provide corrections, additions, etc., so that the entries can be as practical as possible.

Thank you icon_smile.gif.
Gruß Ulf

Not today, and not the same tomorrow.
I just got back from vacation, and my car's fuel consumption has gone crazy again! It's using 10.5 liters per 100 kilometers, even at a speed of 93 km/h (with a trailer). icon_rolleyes.gif

"Yes, I've noticed the same thing. As soon as I give it a little bit of gas (just briefly!), the average fuel consumption for that trip (usually 20-25 km per trip) jumps up so quickly and dramatically that you have to drive slowly, at 60-70 km/h in 6th gear, for quite a few kilometers to bring it back down."

Currently, I would find it very interesting to compare the efficiency curve diagrams of a VP (variable valve timing) and a PD (port design) engine. I'm increasingly suspecting that the fuel consumption in the power and torque ranges, where only PD engines can reach those levels, increases disproportionately compared to VP engines }.

No, not necessarily.

The 1Z was too light, and because of that, I didn't get approval to drive it at 100 km/h. So, I never had the opportunity to drive that van very fast.

Under similar load and driving conditions, the AXR requires only slightly more power, but it also climbs hills more easily. Or has someone removed the Kassel hills (A7 Werratalbrücke towards Kassel)?
The problem with comparing consumption figures lies precisely there. I can climb hills much faster, and the air resistance is already quite significant with a caravan.

That is quite possible. The turbo diesel is becoming increasingly similar to the gasoline engine.

Hi Ulf,

I re-read the article.

I only noticed the "Rr".

Quote:
Symptome: Gelegentliches bis häufiges "hartes" Rruckeln, oft nur in bestimmten Drehzahlbereichen. Engine

Otherwise, I could also imagine a situation where there is some white smoke coming out after starting the engine.
Check and, if necessary, replace the glow plugs. I recently had this problem, and replacing the glow plugs solved it!

Greetings.
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

The "Rr" has been corrected icon_lol.gif.

The issue with the white smoke is already covered in the technical article about preheating system startup problems.
Quote:
Based on general experience, glow plugs do not last for the entire lifespan of a motor.
Faulty spark plugs are most likely to become noticeable during cold starts in winter.
The engine is difficult to start and/or runs roughly for the first few seconds.
Often, white to bluish exhaust fumes are emitted.

Actually, I would like to avoid repeating the same information in multiple articles, because the collection already offers enough reading material and entertainment (for beginners) icon_wink.gif.

Hi Ulf,

icon_lol.gif

Okay, I wasn't aware of that. I thought I had read something about it in the forum before.
But as you can see from the example, I don't have a complete overview either!
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

See you later.
Greetings.
Thomas.

Hopefully, the image will upload correctly.

Unfortunately, I have nothing from the VP. icon_sad.gif
But maybe that's interesting in itself.

With the efficiency of PD, I can help....

Great, thanks in advance icon_smile.gif.

I have another PDF with various diagrams related to the Industrial Variable Pitch TDI AFD (60kW at 3300 rpm).
It includes, among other things, the energy balance, but apparently only at full load (so, no shell diagram).
The Q-effectiveness (presumably referring to the useful power output) is approximately 41 kW at 2000 rpm, and the upper curve (Qrest) reaches about 97 kW at 2000 rpm.

41 / 97 = 0.422 -> This indicates the same efficiency in the maximum Nm range as the PD motor.

At 3300 rpm, the air-fuel ratio (AFD) is 0.372, which is slightly worse than the PD engine.

Therefore, it cannot be concluded that the PD motor has a higher specific (full-load) consumption compared to the VP motor, assuming my interpretation of the AFD's energy balance is correct.

Oh dear! And I thought I was the only one who needed 10 liters with the car! I just came back from Croatia and I also used an average of 10 liters! icon_evil.gif

Truck traffic reduced to 9.0, with sections partially free of trucks (approximately half the distance is clear). Average speed is 9.9.

This clearly demonstrates the difference in fuel consumption between driving at 86-88 km/h in a truck convoy versus 100 km/h without a truck escort.

All speeds were determined using a navigation system (GPS). The measurement error is less than 1 km/h. My vehicle is approved for a maximum speed of 100 km/h... so I haven't done anything illegal!

aha!

'I didn't experience much of a speed difference with the truck in bulk mode. In Germany, on the highway, an average speed of 85-90 km/h felt a bit slow. In Austria, the speed limit is 80 km/h anyway, so the trucks were faster there. Then, the sometimes steep and winding roads in Slovenia and Croatia added to the problem. It's quite annoying to constantly have to shift between the 1st and 3rd gear for kilometers.'

I haven't done anything illegal either, as I also have an official speed limit of 100 km/h for the combination (vehicle and trailer).

Hi,

On "in. at" roads, cars and light trailers (braked or unbraked, maximum authorized gross weight <= 750 kg, combined weight of vehicle and trailer max 3500 + 750 kg) are allowed to travel at 100 km/h on highways and federal roads. For heavy trailers (braked, maximum authorized gross weight <= the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, the sum of the maximum authorized gross weights of the towing vehicle and trailer <= 3500 kg), the speed limit is 80 km/h on federal roads and 100 km/h on highways.
If my understanding of the regulations for vehicles with a maximum authorized speed of 100 km/h in Germany is correct, then the towing vehicle must be at least 20% heavier than the trailer, and the total weight must not exceed 3500 kg (please correct me if I am wrong). Therefore, in Austria, you would have been allowed to drive at 100 km/h on the Autobahn.

Best regards,
Munch.

sorry,

I unfortunately fell victim to misinformation from a large German automobile club. Sadly, I received this information in written form in the travel kit and also had it confirmed verbally. I unfortunately couldn't double-check it online, otherwise I would have noticed the contradiction. But that's life...
