Hello,

I have a problem.
I want to remove the front speakers (in the doors) from my Golf 4, but they are not removable, and I can't see any screws or anything like that.
Are they glued on, or do I have to remove the entire door panel to get to them?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Normally, they are fastened with rivets (plastic). You can simply drill them out and remove them. When installing new ones, you can use simple metal screws, or even Spax screws if necessary.

They are screwed or riveted to the door frame (I've seen both). You can only access them if you remove the entire door panel.
These are not standard speakers. The speakers are recessed into a plastic housing. If you want to install different standard speakers, you will need a suitable adapter ring.

Would you like to install different speakers and need some recommendations?
In the Golf 4, I personally like the Hertz HSK 165 very much. The Peerless Definition 6 or various Exakt! models are also at least just as suitable! Of course, it's best to listen to them yourself! Frank Miketta in Celle (www.carhifistore.de) is a very good dealer, but where are you actually from? icon_biggrin.gif

By the way, there aren't only adapter rings made of plastic, but also those made of metal.

The more securely a speaker is mounted, the more powerful and dynamic it can sound.
You should also use some damping panels to reduce the resonance of the doors, which will minimize the rattling and booming sounds.

My mid-bass drivers are mounted on steel rings, which are then bonded to the plastic adapter rings and the door using filler.

A tighter fit would only be possible by using red brass rings or by welding. icon_twisted.gif

Best regards,
Daniel.

The boxes are ALWAYS factory-riveted. Drill out the rivets, but be careful not to let any rivet pieces fall into the door frame, otherwise it will be noisy... icon_wink.gif

Retrofit kits have a mounting frame that is first riveted to the car body, and then the box itself is screwed onto the frame.

Boxing?

I thought that was a sport? icon_wink.gif

Most of the aftermarket speakers are not recommended at all; I might as well just put a portable radio on the seat.

Hi,

I have the Canton CS 2.16 speakers in my car (plus a subwoofer instead of the spare tire icon_mad.gif). The sound quality of the Cantons is amazing icon_exclaim.gif, and I highly recommend them.

I had the mbquart 218.03qx, they were awesome.....if they are still available => BUY them! icon_wink.gif

The crossover was excellent, and it provided a very clean separation of frequencies.
