I'm afraid I'm having a problem with my clutch. Recently, I've repeatedly noticed that when starting slowly in second gear, the clutch doesn't always disengage properly. After a long highway drive in stop-and-go traffic, it even got to the point where the clutch didn't disengage at all several times in a row, and as a result, the gear couldn't be taken out. The problem only occurs in second gear and is not yet reproducible every time. I also get the impression that the clutch has occasionally 'rubbed' when engaging for about a year.

What could this indicate...? Thank you for any tips; I have also searched extensively and haven't found anything similar in the database yet....icon_sad.gif

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I experienced something similar with my AFN. The clutch was slipping, and eventually, it became very difficult for it to disengage properly, making it hard to change gears. This was also noticeable when starting from a standstill – it would jerk violently.
'In my case, it was the clutch plates that were broken. It was a G60 clutch, but I don't think that makes much of a difference.'

With the new one, things were finally calm.

'I once broke one of those 'actuation fingers' (the parts where the release bearing sits – what are they officially called?). The piece then got stuck between the pressure plate and the clutch disc, and I had to drive 120 km home with a partially disengaged clutch (through the middle of Frankfurt).'
That's where experience with trucks and using the intermediate gas pedal comes in handy.

Possibly the master cylinder is faulty; the pistons may be seized; there may be air in the system (I believe the Golf uses a hydraulic system).

Hey guys!

I had a similar problem with my friend's 2002 Ibiza SDI. The clutch cylinders failed, causing the same issues until it completely stopped working.

Best regards,

You probably mean the membrane springs from the printing plate.
I haven't seen any broken ones yet.
The spiral springs in the clutch disc are called torsion springs, if I remember correctly.
However, the rivets often come loose from the brake pads, and then...
