Hello fellow diesel enthusiasts!
For the past 3 weeks, I've been having a problem with my Golf III TDI, 90 horsepower, manufactured in 1994, with 240,000 kilometers on the odometer.
It started with a whistling sound when accelerating from low RPM. Two days later, a hissing, crackling noise was added at higher RPM.
In the workshop, an air hose to the turbocharger was replaced. This eliminated the noise at higher RPMs ( >3000 RPM). However, the 'turbine-like' whistling sound still persists. The (VAG) workshop said that this is not so concerning. However, I have read in the forum that a whistling turbocharger is often a sign that it is about to fail.
Now, I'm naturally a bit concerned, especially when it comes to further trips with the car

.
Okay, here's the translation:
'I'm trying to describe the whistling sound in more detail: It occurs almost synchronously with the engine speed, but with a certain delay. Therefore, it doesn't sound like a turbocharger. The whistling seems louder when the engine is cold. When driving at a constant speed/RPM, no whistling can be heard. Also, I can't perceive any whistling at engine speeds above 3500 RPM. It's most noticeable when accelerating, especially at lower RPMs. I've been driving like this for about 1000 km now, and the condition hasn't changed.'
Should I be worried

, can I continue driving without any concerns? Can I do something good for the turbocharger, for example, by taking it on a longer drive at a higher RPM? - I'm quite at a loss

.
Greetings.
Albert.
