Hello,

A friend of mine has a 1994 Golf III with a 90 horsepower TDI engine, and it seems the pressure sensor for the turbocharger is defective.
Where is that part located?

In another vehicle, of the same year and engine type, a pulsating acceleration occurs when the accelerator is fully pressed and the engine speed exceeds 3000 RPM (this is different from a faulty fuel injector, which causes noticeable misfires - it manifests as a waxing and waning of acceleration).

Also: The relay next to the diesel filter (with three hoses connected to it) clicks when the engine is idling - is that normal?

Maybe someone can help.
Sebastian.

Hello Sebastian,

Given the age of the Golf, I'm assuming it's a 1Z model, and in that case, the turbocharger pressure sensor is located *inside* the engine control unit (ECU).
The clicking sound of the "relay next to the diesel filter," which we'll simply call the boost pressure control valve here, is NOT normal. I finally replaced mine after two years of clicking (~30 euros), and lo and behold, my partial-load jerking and rough running is gone!! After consulting several workshops, all of whom (!!!!!) said "...that's normal..." icon_evil.gif.

Hi,

@Bertil
That's interesting!
'On my 1Z, the pressure regulating valve also made a clicking noise for a long time.'
And the VW workshops also repeatedly assured me that everything was fine, and that the noise would just get louder over time *what nonsense*.
Well, shortly after that, the part broke, resulting in a loss of performance.
Quickly replaced - no more clicking - problem resolved.

But the crowning moment was when a VW master mechanic stated that this part would control the starter, and that the clicking sound was supposed to be like that... icon_lol.gif

So, I will also apply for the position of Volkswagen Master Technician.
I don't have any qualifications - so I'm exactly the type of person they're apparently looking for... icon_wink.gif
