"On my Golf 4, manufactured in 1998, with an ALH engine, the indicator for "door open" is faintly visible but doesn't function. I noticed that there are microswitches installed and wired to both the hood latch and the rear hatch. Are these connected to this warning light? Is it necessary to activate anything in the control unit (ECU) for this to work, or could it be that the lamp is simply no longer functioning (I believe it should only have one bulb)? "When you turn on the ignition, the symbol definitely doesn't light up.
I've already been searching here, but I haven't found what I'm looking for.
Does anyone have a tip or two they could share?
Thank you very much.

Hello!
The sensors in the hood could also be used for your alarm system, if you have one.
Otherwise: Remove the speedometer and check if there's brine inside.
'My G3 had the same issue, but with the 'fuel tank empty' indicator. The technology, wiring, everything was pre-installed. But VW skimped on this stupid lamp. This happened with certain VDO dashboards from 1995-1997 (?). Now I've retrofitted the bulb (50C at VW!!!!!), and now the bulb lights up whenever the tank is empty...I haven't gotten used to it yet...I always think there's an engine problem.'
Perhaps it's just as easy to solve with the G4?
Greetings,
Henrik.

Hi,
"Be glad you don't have a device like the Ibi that starts making noise when the LED turns on. That thing is so loud and obnoxious that it's almost dangerous."

Hi,
'Be glad you don't have a 'Quaeke' like the one from Ibi that starts making noise when the LED turns on. That thing is so loud and obnoxious that it's almost dangerous.'
Best regards,
Jan.
My mother has a 'beepeteil' (likely referring to an aftermarket alarm or sensor) installed in her Polo 9n, and it went off three times when I was driving out of a dark parking garage. Each time, I felt like my heart was going to stop.

I was also mistaken about that; the symbol wasn't for "door open" but for the "fasten seatbelt" symbol (which doesn't work either). An alarm system wasn't installed, but I think there might be one. I also found an additional horn near the windshield wiper motor. Too bad, I thought the Golf 4 had something like that, but as I read, it was probably only available from model year 2000 onwards.

For me, I can disable the beeps by setting the language code of the combined system to 0 (zero). This means 'without text message.' So, you won't get any 'please refuel' messages, etc., but also no beeping sounds when something is wrong.
7 is also declared as 'without text,' so I need to check if only the Quakers are missing from it.
By the way, I also have an LED for a 'hood open' indicator that I can't seem to activate.
'However, the combination lock has a switch built into it for the central locking system. Unfortunately, the documentation doesn't mention this (no provision for an additional hood release switch). Who knows...'

For the Passat, a cable needs to be run from the comfort control unit to the instrument cluster for the tailgate symbol to function. I'm not sure if it's the same way on the Golf.

My Golf is a 1998 model, so it probably doesn't have a CAN-bus system. Is there a wiring diagram somewhere that shows which cables need to be connected and which pins they should be connected to in the instrument cluster? I once read a post about this, but I can't find it again.

If you're referring to the seatbelt reminder symbol, you'll need a buckle with that function, and the G3 speedometer has an output that needs to be connected to the belt sensor. Unfortunately, the page detailing the pinout of the speedometer is currently offline. It really would have been helpful to save that information beforehand...

Here's the pin configuration... but I'm quite sure there should be some kind of clip or fastener somewhere on it!
