My tailgate is very difficult to close. I have to slam it really hard for it to stay closed. Is there a way to adjust this?
There's a rubber buffer inside the lock. You have to press it together by 'snapping' it, so that the latch of the lock engages properly?

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:

Hi,

On either side of the door, there are rubber bumpers that ensure the door rests properly against the car body. These can be "adjusted" by rotating them, which has a significant impact on the door's ability to close. Adjusting these bumpers might be more effective than adjustments to the lock itself.

I was able to eliminate the rattling noise from the rear door by gently tightening certain components.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

In the rubber buffers of the golf clubs, there are Allen screws. I've removed them completely before, but it didn't make any difference.

Have a nice weekend!

David.

The flap must fit tightly, otherwise exhaust gases and moisture will leak inside.

Here's a trick (but use it carefully!): Loosen the latch bolt so that it can be moved with some force. Use your finger to close the lock, and then drop the door from about 30cm (1 foot) onto the lock. This will push the latch bolt into the correct position. Tighten the screws on the latch bolt again; that should be enough.
The rubber buffers must be adjusted so that the gap dimensions are correct (as much as possible on a Golf 4). Check this with the flap closed. The gap between the rear light and the roof trim at the top must be of equal width along the entire length.
