Do these vehicles or engines require different oil filters than those used for VP engines? I'll be needing an oil change soon, and it's important to replace the filter at the same time.

Best regards, WarLord.

Filter element with seal, part number 074 115 562, approximately 9 EUR.

used in, among others, Passat models from 1997-2004 and various TDI Golf models (including the classic AGR, ALH, etc.).

So, it's a standard part, but 10,000 times larger.

You are not allowed to only distinguish between PD and VP here.

In particular, the oil filter was changed during the transition from the Golf 3 to the Golf 4 (specifically, when the intermediate shaft was removed, changing from the 028 engine to the 038 engine).

Golf 3 028: Remove the fuel injector by unscrewing it from the bottom (as was done with the G1 and G2 models).

Golf 4, part number 038: Housing for the filter insert that can be unscrewed from the top (similar to an air filter housing, where the housing remains in the car).

That's a great thing. But there's something even worse than changing the filter on a 35i.

That means I'm going to get a filter for a Golf or something like that.

Best regards, WarLord.

How did you come to that conclusion?
Replacing the filter cartridge is completely straightforward, making it a very verschandeln and simple process.
I find this system much better than having to throw away a filter, including its metal casing, every time. It's much more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly (although one can hardly speak of "environmental friendliness" when it comes to oil changes).
Furthermore, when removing a conventional filter, there is significantly more mess due to the oil that spills out.
You simply unscrew the lid of the oil filter housing and remove the filter cartridge. If you're skilled, everything will drip into the housing and nothing will spill. By the way, you should remove the filter cartridge before or during the oil draining process so that the oil inside the filter housing can flow towards the oil pan icon_wink.gif.
There is a rod on the lid, to which a small O-ring needs to be replaced. Furthermore, especially the large O-ring on the lid should be replaced, as it is stressed by repeatedly screwing the lid on and off. It should also be well-greased or oiled before screwing the lid on, so that it survives the screwing process.

Overall, I believe that the system with the fixed oil filter housing and the fully replaceable filter cartridge is superior. The replacement can be conveniently done from above, and the technical and environmental advantages are also obvious.

So, don't jump to any conclusions. At the latest after your second filter change, you will agree with me icon_wink.gif.

Regards,
Alex.

Should I ever find the filter. icon_lol.gif

By the way: The large ring is included with the filter, as I understand it. What about the small one?

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,

@MartinViewing profile: Martin: Du hattest doch auch schon einen ASV-Ibiza am Wickel... ist der da genauso wie die 038... Goelfe?

I'm actually about to do a similar exercise myself, but I haven't started yet, not even with preliminary research (i.e., trying to find information about it discreetly).

Best regards,

Jan.

hello Warlord
A small ring is included, and it usually doesn't leak.

Should I ever find the filter. icon_question.gif

Open the hood, remove the cover, then on the right side, in the middle, there's a black cap that you can usually unscrew by hand.

Best regards, Michi3.
