Was iWhat are you up to?
In addition, the error log indicates a problem with the coolant temperature sensor, specifically a short circuit to the positive terminal. The error is intermittent.

Hello,

Are you sure the error definition (coolant temperature) is correct and that it shouldn't say "fuel temperature sensor"? The negative value certainly suggests a faulty fuel sensor.
Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will then provide the translation without any explanations. Also, please let me know the error number you are referring to.
Tschüss

'One week ago, the fuel and coolant temperature sensors were showing errors in the error log. Yesterday, only the coolant temperature sensor was showing an error.'
Today, 17571 P1163, fuel temperature sensor sender, part number # -G81.
Interruption / Short circuit after positive voltage.

Is the fuel temperature sensor difficult to replace? Does the pump need to be removed?

Blow away the dust icon_razz.gif

Is there anyone who knows how to replace the fuel temperature sensor?

icon_question.gif icon_question.gif If you had read the thread above correctly, you would know where the donor is and how it can (not) be changed.

Is the resistor in the fuel pump defective

This applies to the VP TDI.
In diesel engines, the fuel temperature sensor is located in the fuel line before the tandem pump. There were also pictures of this in the forum previously... use the search function.

I'm sorry, but I have the feeling that everyone who posts a question is immediately assumed to be...
will be, that he didn't read the thread. icon_question.gif

I have read everything, even searched for it, including the technical article about the 10ct system and Ulf's posts about fuel sensors in the PD (pump-injector) system. However, I haven't found anything that states whether the resistor in the VP37 diesel pump can be replaced or not.

What you wrote just now, 'he cannot be changed,' means that it's always the case.
Is it correct to replace the diesel pump if the fuel sensor is defective?

It's strange that VW offers the sensor as a separate replacement part.

The problem is that I can't get the three countersunk screws off the ESP cover.

See the technical article "ESP DeckelDichtung" by Georg-TDI for more information.

... another issue is that the donor component should not be soldered. Also, attaching it without the manufacturer's special tool is probably quite difficult.
It's definitely possible... At least before I would have to buy a new pump (I would still try to solder it).
I had drilled a hole through the triangular screw and then removed it by turning it counter-clockwise with a special tool.

The sensor is located under the ESP cover on the VP37, which, as mentioned before, is secured with a three-sided screw. I wouldn't dare to desolder it while it's still installed. According to Bosch service, it is replaceable.
Before that, I would check the wiring outside the pump.

Best regards, Heri.

The sensor is very easily fixed with a small screw! Nothing needs to be soldered there. It would be sad if a sensor couldn't be easily replaced icon_rolleyes.gif.
I even have a VP37 lying around at home. The biggest problem with the whole thing is the three-sided screw on the pump cover. Maybe I'll post a digital photo later tonight...

Okay, here's the photo I promised!
The fuel temperature sensor (G81) is simply attached with 2 Torx screws.

If two sensors are connected with a 'short circuit to positive,' I would check the sensor ground, the wiring harness, and the connectors.
