Hello,

I bought some rims from a BMW E30.
Since these rims have the same bolt pattern (4/100), there should be no issues with using them.
Of course, the rims also included the BMW wheel bolts: M12x1.5x23.

My Golf 3 uses an M12x1.5x19 thread.

Can I still use those screws?
Was bedeutet die letzte Zahl? Length?
Based on the thread, they should be the same.

Thank you for the tips!

Regards,
DJ.

...

The background is as follows:

The rims are from RH.
I wanted the 9x17 size, but it's only available for BMW vehicles.

Now I've received the rims, and of course, the screws from BMW came with them.

According to the parts certificate from VW, you need M12x1.5x19 screws.
According to the BMW parts catalog, the required screws are M12x1.5x23.

However, the partial approval document from VW only covers rim sizes up to 8x17 inches, but this shouldn't make a difference to the wheel bolts, should it?

Regards,
DJ.

hi,
You guessed it! The BMW screws are longer!
However, the difference in length is approximately 1/4 of the original VW screws.
I would be cautious and would rather advise against using it.
The BMW screws might protrude so far into the VW brake unit that...
when proper functionality can no longer be guaranteed.
For this reason, I would like to buy new screws that are 19mm long.
they have the correct conical or spherical shape – perfectly suited for your BMW rims.
(Please consider the cone angle or sphere radius, as applicable.)
The difference in rim width is not relevant to the screw length.

Are you looking here?

additional information:
If you received a plastic ring (which goes between the wheel hub and the rim),
Then make sure you can also use it with VW vehicles.
Here too, there are differences!

Hi,

Thank you for your quick response!

Hmm, does it really matter if the screw is tightened a little bit more?

I currently have alloy rims on, maybe I can use the bolts from those - I'll have to measure.

Regards,
DJ.

PS: I have disc brakes on the front and rear, so I just need to check for proper clearance, right?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Addendum:'

Okay, the centering ring is the same -> 57.1.

DJ.

Well, perhaps the screws on the wheel bearing housing are stuck, or you might damage the ABS sensor ring.
I would try it cautiously!

hmm...

Another consideration would be to reuse the original screws that I already have on my new rims.

Do all conical frustum screws have a 60-degree angle?

DJ.

Or shorten the BMW screws to 4mm...

Not all, but the vast majority.

"If you have disc brakes, this should work. Carefully screw it in and make sure nothing happens to the ABS sensor ring. Otherwise, there's nothing in the way. However, it would be different with drum brakes, as there would be problems in that case."
