Hi, is it possible that the engine suddenly started consuming oil since the new turbo was installed?

A new turbo was installed in the Golf 3 (year 1997) in May. Before that, I never noticed any oil consumption, but the other day, when I was driving around a curve a bit faster, the oil light suddenly came on with a loud noise, so I checked the oil level. There were 2 liters missing! I normally check the oil once a month, and I never noticed anything before. But since the new turbo was installed, it's also smoking more and consuming oil. However, the engine seems to be sealed from the outside.

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi.

If, after a previously normal driving distance with no measurable oil consumption, you suddenly find that 2 liters are missing, then something probably went wrong during the last repair.

Check the loader to see if any oil is leaking from its exterior. It's possible that one of its oil lines isn't properly tightened.

If there are no visible leaks anywhere, the loader might have a problem, or the engine might have been damaged --> file a complaint.
The increased soot could be coming from engine oil that is being drawn into the intake manifold and burned.

It's also possible that a faulty crankcase ventilation system connection could be the cause, but I'm not sure if that could cause such a significant oil leak.
