Hi,

'My friend's fuel injection pump was broken. Now he got one from a '96 AFN model for a cheap price, but his engine is a '94 1Z. Will the pump work if he installs it?'

Does anyone know?

It depends on whether the old pump used a potentiometer or operated inductively. 94 is the exact threshold. If the old pump was inductive, it should work, but then without the required approval certificate (ABE).

The search function should help you understand the differences and distinguishing features.

Regards,
Sure, here's the translation:

"Guste" is a German word that means "gust" or "gust of wind." It can also be used to describe a sudden burst of something, such as laughter or anger.

Hi,

If the old pump has an inductive control sensor, then the old, good 1Z injector will run, and even perform better than before, due to the higher injection pressure.

Best regards,

Wasn't there also different types of connectors and pin configurations?

Why should the fuel injection pressure be higher?
It's just a 10mm plunger pump piston.
And the nozzle opening pressure will definitely not change.

And the opening pressure of the nozzles will certainly not change.

Okay, but the impeller (?) is shaped differently than on the 1Z model.
Steeper "pressure flanks" cause the distributor piston to reach a higher speed at the same rpm, resulting in a higher flow rate and higher injection pressure.

AFN nozzles tend to compensate for this by having larger bore diameters.

I've had an AFN ESP installed in my car for three months now, and it makes absolutely no difference! The engine behaves the same, the performance is the same, the engine sound is the same, and the fuel consumption is the same.

Unfortunately, the jerking is now starting to appear. Even with a 1Z engine, you can't be sure with an AFN-ESP (so it's really a software issue in the control unit). According to the previous owner, the pump was replaced at around 120,000 km. However, based on the jerking, it's probably closer to 220,000 km. icon_evil.gif
