µ-Split Brakes: Troubleshooting & Common Issues

'Recently, I noticed that the brakes on my Golf V cause the car to lose control and swerve when ABS is activated on different road surfaces. All my previous cars have remained stable and on track in these situations, but my Golf V (manufactured in 2005) does not. Whether the ESP is on or off during braking, the car still loses control; is this normal for a Golf V, or is it a problem with the ABS system? Is there any known information about this?'

Hi,

I can't comment on your specific car, but my car also had very uneven braking at the beginning. It also had extreme brake fade. The workshop then (allegedly) completely disassembled, inspected, and tested the entire braking system on a brake tester. Officially, they found nothing wrong, but it was better afterward. However, the full braking performance only developed much later, when the system was fully broken in.

Perhaps you simply haven't put enough kilometers on it yet?
I still experienced significant pulling to one side and severe fading, even after almost 1,500 kilometers, and it only improved much later.

It's shocking to hear that from a brand new car, but unfortunately, that's what happened.
