Hello everyone,
I have a question about the brakes and their responsiveness.
I recently drove a Passat 3C BlueMotion with 117,000 km on the odometer, and I noticed that...
The car reacted much more aggressively to light braking than my Passat 3BG did.
After switching to my car, I had to get used to the worse braking performance again.
The complete brake system, including the fluid, is new on my car, and it also has the 288mm braking system installed.
What could be the reason for that?
Best regards,
Alex. 2004er Passat 3BG 1,9 Tdi AVF 96 KW

Hi,
Under what conditions, only when it rains, or always?
Sure, here's the translation:
"SG" can have different meanings depending on the context. It could stand for "Spielgemeinschaft," which is a German term for a sports club or association that combines players from multiple teams or organizations. Alternatively, it could refer to "Säkularkantor," a type of church musician who does not hold religious beliefs. Finally, "SG" might be an abbreviation for "Sonstige," meaning "other" or "miscellaneous."

No, on a dry road surface.
With the 3C, a gentle tap of the pedal was all it took for it to engage.
Apply the brakes.
I used to notice this kind of behavior a lot with new cars in the past.

"Such differences are perfectly normal and can even occur within the same vehicle series. For example, the very first models of the Volkswagen Golf IV were so extreme that a different brake booster was installed after a relatively short production run."
As long as the braking works correctly, everything is fine. MfG. Michael

Yes, that's right, the fourth-generation Golf also had that feature back then.
Yes, I think everything else is okay. I was just curious why that is.

My excavator does the same thing. The brakes basically only engage fully after a full second. I find this extremely annoying and also dangerous.
I would suspect that the cause is the inertia of the BKV (presumably an organization or system). 3B5 AJM

That has nothing to do with this case.
You simply get the feeling that the pedal doesn't move immediately to where you want it to go, but rather with a delay .
The actual braking effect is definitely present. 3B5 AJM

It is very difficult to make subjective comparisons in such cases.
Some cars react extremely sharply to even the slightest touch of the brake pedal, even though their braking performance isn't actually that much better objectively. My Golf brakes more "gradually," subjectively, about like BM describes. The bus stops immediately. You always have to get used to that when switching vehicles.
I also consider the size of the rotors to be completely secondary. Everything else is much more important. This includes things like the brake control unit (BCU), definitely also the type of calipers and the number of pistons.
...Since I always rode Japanese motorcycles until I got a 1200GS, I also used to think that those huge Japanese brake discs were the best. When you then ride bikes with "small" BMW discs, it seems like nothing can compare. Until you take a test ride. What a well-made brake system with good lines can achieve is incredible .

Es gibt Autos die extrem bissig auf das Antippen der Bremse reagieren, obwohl sie objektiv gar nicht viel besser Bremsen.
It's very nice to see in the area of emergency braking. Suddenly, you realize that nothing is coming anymore. I once had this problem with a Renault.
I also consider the size of the discs to be absolutely secondary. Everything else is much more important.
Mmhh. Of course, smaller discs can be compensated for to some extent with other technical 'tricks' for a while.
However, this will at least affect the lifespan (wear and tear) and also the durability of the braking system.
Large pieces are easier to handle.

I mentioned the 312 models of the 3C because Alex's comment sounded like he thought he had the same braking system as a 3C.

...I also experienced something similar with the "bite" in a Renault... haha, I didn't want to say anything before it caused any trouble.
I didn't mean to say that the size of the disc is unimportant; I expressed that poorly. Of course, the system must first be designed to fit the car. But the initial responsiveness is certainly not significantly affected by the absolute size.

I actually thought the BlueMotion with 105 hp only came with the 280mm brake discs on the front.
The car's braking performance is okay, but sometimes I wish it had that [characteristic/quality - depending on the intended meaning].
They react when you tap the brake pedal. Well, but it would be pointless to replace the entire braking system for that.

Which BMW has 105 horsepower?
Should I get the older one with the 1.9 TDI engine (BLS) or the newer one with the 1.6 CR TDI engine (CAYC)?
Since the 3C only has 312mm and 345mm disc options available, it either has NO brakes or something larger than 280 .

I meant the BLS, so I have incorrect information about that.
I thought it had a 280mm brake system installed.

I noticed the same thing with the A3.
I drive a 3/97 AGR TDI that already has pretty good brakes.
But a friend of mine has a 4/99 AGR, and if you just lightly touch the brake pedal in that car...
The car brakes like a beast!
I even installed cheap brake pads for her and tried to overload the brakes while going downhill.
Even when the brakes were already starting to smell, their braking performance was still remarkably good.
I'm actually thinking about writing down the part number so I can order the same one again.
