Hello,
I need your help.
In a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi, the warning light for coolant temperature (thermometer symbol) often flashes after the first start in the morning. Initially, there's a beeping sound about 3 times, then the light flashes for 30 seconds before turning off. After turning the engine off and restarting, the light no longer flashes – everything seems normal. This happens at temperatures around 0 degrees Celsius, but today it also occurred at 8 degrees Celsius according to the climate control display.
I've already checked the coolant level - it's okay.
But what is the meaning and cause of the blinking?
Regards,
Ed 2002

hi,
Let's read the error codes.
Maybe it's just the temperature sensor.
'With the Lupo 3L, this issue occurs more frequently.'
that the dual-temperature sensor is defective, which can then cause a similar phenomenon.
After replacing the dual-temperature sensor, everything is working properly again.
If you still have warranty, have the error codes read and, if necessary, have the sensor replaced.
If it's the temperature sensor, then...
Then the error is in the combination instrument.
greetings

This could be due to a water level that is too low or a temperature that is too high.
A mini- or maxi-dot would be helpful right now...
Okay, with a cold engine, open the expansion tank and take a look at the level sensor. It consists of two stainless steel rods that tend to get slimy.
Then, it would be a good idea to check the temperature sensors for plausibility using a diagnostic tool.
A faulty sensor (in the sense of a lack of contact or a short circuit) will be stored in the error memory.
And of course, first and foremost, disconnect and inspect all connectors. Also check the cables, as a small piece of dust might have gotten in.

I don't have a technical explanation for it, other than a weak battery!
I'm experiencing the same problem with my braking system. I've been diligently ignoring it for about 4 years because the error memory is clear, and the issue only occurs sporadically!
Only when it's cold and during the first engine start!
Regards,
Manuel.

Hello, there are several causes for the problem. These include the sensors, cables, and the control unit.

'That's exactly what happened with my wife's Octi - I checked the level and it seemed like there was enough fluid, but I filled it up to the max mark, and the warning light still came on and started beeping.'
Then I filled the coolant up to about 1 to 1.5 centimeters above the maximum mark.
Since then, I haven't received any more warning messages.
small Czech error
best regards, emil

I'm familiar with this problem from an A3 or Audi TT. Apparently, the red chemical substance in the coolant reservoir, in conjunction with the sensor inside, is the culprit. This sensor essentially consists of just two electrodes. Over time, a kind of film forms on them, and when the outside temperature is cold, the FIS (fahrzeuginternes System - on-board computer system) then displays an incorrectly low coolant level. Unfortunately, the sensor cannot be replaced individually; only the entire container can be replaced (which is, of course, typical).
The container reportedly costs around €35. Working hours are not included in this (draining and refilling the coolant). However, the problem was then resolved.
Sure, here's the translation:
"MFG" is an abbreviation for "Mit freundlichen Grüßen," which translates to "Sincerely" or "Best regards" in English.

MFG
The container costs just under 10€, and you can replace it yourself in 10 minutes!
The sensor is included in the €10 price, but it's not actually a sensor; it's just two metal rods embedded in the material!

Manuel.

Does anyone actually read what I write?

'The engine check light has been on for a few weeks, and VAG COM is reporting various errors in the G62 sensor.'
Now I've bought this thing, but I'm not exactly sure where it's supposed to be installed. I drive an Octavia.

Hello Ed2002.
I experienced the exact same phenomenon on the same model of car that you drive.
As Gremlin mentioned above...
Simply use a toothbrush to scrub the two electrodes inside the coolant reservoir. The haunting is over.
