Hi.
How do I remove the mirror cover on a Golf 4? There's something loose inside that rattles when I close the door.

Hello,

According to Etzold, the cover itself cannot be removed directly. However, you can remove the internal components of the mirror. There is a small hole in the center, underneath the mirror. Insert a suitable screwdriver into the hole to release the retaining clip. Then, pull the mirror upwards to remove it. We are not liable for any damage caused by broken glass!

EDIT: The lower part of the mirror, which often has an unpainted bracket, remains attached to the car.

Thank you, Marco.

It probably makes more sense to carefully pry off the mirror glass beforehand using a wide putty knife. Hopefully, the mounting is clipped in place within a round plastic ring, like in the 3er Golf. Can you confirm that?

Hello Hati,

I can only find information about this topic in the Etzold manual, as I haven't done it myself before. However, according to the instructions, mirror glass is installed as follows: Using a flat plastic spatula, carefully press the mirror glass towards the back, as viewed in the direction of travel, starting from the bottom and then the top.
