Hello everyone,

in einem anderen Forum habe ich gelesen, dass es Hersteller gibt, die eine Abschaltung für ca. 250 Euro für die Lima anbieten. SI'm sorry, I can't translate that because it appears to be incomplete or nonsensical. Please provide a complete and coherent text for me to translate.
5 and 10 horsepower. icon_eek.gif
Since we all drive self-igniting cars, we actually don't need any electricity on the road, aside from such unimportant things like lights, ABS, or other consumers. icon_wink.gif

I'm not planning to buy something like that right now, I'm just interested in hearing your opinions. Also, I think you can probably build something like that yourself, and you don't necessarily have to spend 250 euros on it.

It should actually work with the power steering pump.
If, for example, everything is switched off at full load and then switched back on when the gas is turned off?

Greetings,
Thomas.

Hi.

and the EDC consumes no electricity icon_wink.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif.

You would need to run a switch from the alternator to allow you to disconnect the excitation current. It's fundamentally not a problem, but the devil is probably in the details...

If, for example, everything is turned off at full load and then turned back on when the gas is reduced ???

With the older, purely hydraulic parts, there's nothing to shift... icon_lol.gif unless you blow the drive belt.

And apparently, the new electrical systems automatically switch off when they are not needed.

Greetings,
Thomas.

Hi Ulf,

The EDC ??? Well, ... maybe just a little bit, he he! icon_biggrin.gif
But the battery is still there, and you can't accelerate forever.
Does turning off the alternator actually make a difference?

Regarding the power steering pump belt.
Is it not possible to do something similar to what's done with a climate control compressor? After all, that doesn't run constantly either!

Greetings,
Thomas.

5-10 horsepower? I doubt it. The air conditioning compressor might need that much power when it's hot, but not the alternator.

'If you were to simply measure the current flowing when the device is idle, you would know the wattage it's consuming, right? Unfortunately, I'm not an electrical engineer.'

Hello,

13.8V * 120A = 1.665kW ~ 2.25 HP, which is the maximum electrical power output of a common alternator.
Even with a very poor efficiency and significant losses in the belt drive system, it should still produce less than 5 horsepower.
Normally, the alternator only needs to provide a much smaller amount of electrical power, and in my opinion, the power requirement is negligible.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi!

Your generator provides a maximum of approximately 1200 watts, or, in other words, 1.2 kW, or less than 2 horsepower. The generator's efficiency is NEVER so poor that you would have a power consumption of more than 3 horsepower. However, the air conditioning compressor actually requires up to 10 horsepower or more, depending on the model. You can turn it off using the controls on your air conditioning system.

Best regards,
Uwe

He he, so all in all, it's really a worthwhile endeavor.
Especially for 250 euros. icon_redface.gif
That probably falls under the category of money-making schemes.
Okay, thanks for the explanations.

Greetings,
Thomas.

Yes, you can sell everything icon_smile.gif.
edit: the forum filters words... 'verkaufxx' should be there... something like that...
The air conditioning compressor is disconnected under full load anyway, at least as long as the air conditioning system doesn't report excessively high temperatures. This 'air conditioning intervention' is also part of the actuator test of the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control). Besides the air conditioning compressor, the fuel injection pump is the biggest consumer of power. The alternator comes in third.
What could perhaps be turned off is the afterglow after a cold start. This forces the alternator to operate at 100% capacity, and there is a noticeable jerk at idle when the glow plugs are then switched off icon_wink.gif.

.

Hi.

That's probably true. Especially the newer generations seem to have an excessively long afterglow program, in my opinion.
Our 2001 ALH Ibiza continues to glow for several minutes even when the engine is only partially warm after icon_sad.gif.

However, simply inserting a bypass wire into the control circuit of the glow relay isn't the right solution either - the engine control unit monitors the resistance of the glow relay and will register an error if there is no continuity.

You could potentially connect a relatively high-resistance resistor, in the kOhm range, in parallel with the relay coil.
At least, the AFN engine control unit can be bypassed regarding the EGR valve and the turbocharger boost pressure solenoid valve.

Hi,

I always thought that the 'jolt' felt a few minutes after a cold start in the engine was due to the coolant auxiliary heater shutting off?
When it's really warm outside (which hasn't really been the case this year), I don't even notice the jolt, even after a cold start.

When it's really warm outside (which hasn't really been the case this year), I don't notice the jolt myself, even after a cold start.

I cannot assess that: automatic transmissions generally do not have a heater.

probably because the heater is guaranteed to provide more than 600W of heating power icon_smile.gif.

'All that is certain is that the afterglow phase utilizes the alternator to 100%, and this always results in a spectacular light show when the engine speed fluctuates around 2500 RPM (above that speed, the afterglow function is disabled).'

Yes, since then, almost all sales ads have been posted in the designated classifieds forum icon_mrgreen.gif.
The function just can't grasp the context.

Best regards, Rainer.
