Hi, I'm currently trying to detach the left driveshaft from the wheel bearing housing on my Golf IV TDI. I have a suitable 30mm spline socket. However, I can't get the nut off. I've already attached a long extension, but nothing is happening. Does anyone have any advice? How tightly is that nut normally tightened?

Okay, so you need about a meter of pipe for the fixed extension, and then add your body weight!

Best regards, Robert.

240 Nm.

I managed to loosen them with a standard 30mm deep socket wrench. It wasn't a problem on either side. Apparently, I am heavy enough icon_smile.gif.

Alles klar, rohe Gewalt hat das Problem gelöst. Thank you icon_smile.gif.
Okay, here's the next one:
The wheel bearing housing is not coming off the drive shaft. I was able to pull a piece of it out of the splines, but now it won't budge even a millimeter more.
I should be able to just lower it now, right? Of course, the tie rod, shock absorber, and control arm are all disconnected.
Does brute force seem to be the only solution here? (The constant back-and-forth movement of the drive shaft when trying to push it down is kind of painful.) Thanks in advance!

"Hmm, that doesn't sound good. Usually, the driveshaft just slides out of the wheel bearing housing."
Could it be that you picked up some dirt and it's now stuck in the teeth?
Then brute force is probably the only option.

In the Plus engine configurations (VR6), the helical gears are compressed. This presents the same problem.
I always used a puller to remove the driveshaft.
