Check the target and actual values for the injection start at the upper RPM range and under full throttle (it's possible that the injection start was incorrectly adjusted after the timing belt replacement).
This is from another thread - from Rainer. In my car, the timing belt was also replaced 10,000 km ago, but certainly not the injection timing was adjusted.
Could this be related to my current problem?

Hello,
What is your oil consumption per 1000 km, and how many kilometers are on your engine? If your oil consumption is above 0.6 liters per 1000 km, you should determine where the oil is disappearing to before making any further investments or experimenting.
a) Worst-case scenario: a faulty turbocharger can lead to increased oil consumption, resulting in black or blue smoke.
b) Even worse: broken piston ring, cylinder wall damaged, blown head gasket, valve guides/seals completely worn out.
c) Oil is simply leaking out through the head gasket or a similar component.
Case b) almost certainly means the engine is scrap. -> Replace the engine or the cylinder head.
You can distinguish between case A and case B by disconnecting the crankcase ventilation hose from the intake manifold.
If air is blowing out of the hose (-> b) at idle speed with excessive force, replace the engine. If there is no more blue smoke when driving with the hose disconnected and the intake manifold closed, that would be a bad sign.
To prevent your car from catching fire during the test, the disconnected crankcase ventilation hose should be extended and terminated in a metal container.
If the ventilation is normal, then the problem is likely with the turbocharger (a).
Best regards, Rainer.

OK, thanks Rainer for the reply.
I will check this as described. I will report back with more information later.
Okay: The engine has 102,000 km on it. The oil was changed 2,000 km ago.
Consumption: I drove 400 km, and the oil level dropped from full on the dipstick to 2/3 full. So, the consumption is quite high.
Hopefully, it's the charger.
Thanks again, and best regards.
Arne.
P.S. I would be very happy to receive more responses .

Hi,
If the engine has really only run for 102,000 miles, it would be quite unlikely that it's completely broken.
Just take a look and see where the oil is going.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hi.
Apart from the high oil consumption, the problem might actually be caused by the EGR valve (located on the intake manifold).
If the mechanism is stiff and gets stuck in different places depending on the day (or possibly the closing spring is broken??), I think that could explain all your problems except for the oil consumption.
The only truly reliable way to check in this case would be to block the passage between the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold (e.g., with a piece of metal instead of a gasket).
Once the carbon buildup is gone and the engine's performance is restored, you'll only need to worry about the high oil consumption.
(I assume you're aware that a defective AGR system will invalidate your vehicle's approval certificate...). Gruß Ulf

Hi ULF,
The EGR valve has been disconnected since I've owned the car. So, you don't think it's related to that, do you?
So, I think the performance is back to what it was before. Maybe it's just missing a little bit of torque.
As I said, when I keep the engine speed above 2000 RPM on the track, the smoking is almost gone.
By the way, I got a large pressure vessel yesterday. I'll install it sometime this week.
I will definitely keep you updated regarding smoking and oil consumption.
VW suggested it might be the injector nozzle, so I removed it and the smoking stopped. However, the power also decreased. I still need to check the measurements, but I don't have much time at the moment because I had an accident yesterday (with a car belonging to a colleague).
Danke nochmal für Eure Hilfe. Worth the money...
Regards,
Arne.

I promised to keep you updated.
Okay, so the oil consumption has stopped again. The level has been pretty much just below the maximum mark since I reported this.
It's strange that the car sometimes runs poorly, smokes blue, and then seems to be okay again.
'It's still smoking like five Actros trucks running at full power. It doesn't really bother me as long as I have the power. VW told me to keep driving it. (A colleague who's a master mechanic).' 'Could it be that the soot is depositing somewhere and causing unpleasant side effects?'
Greetings from sunny Ahaus, where we had to scrape ice off the windshields this morning...

Could it be that the soot settles somewhere and causes unpleasant side effects?
Of course, the VTG mechanism isn't supposed to be thrilled about that, and neither is the cat...

Hi everyone, despite all your explanations, some things are still unclear to me, especially regarding the 'russt' issue. My Golf (engine AHF, originally 81 kW, now 100 kW) has been tuned with an auxiliary module and is currently producing a lot of black smoke. This means that in sunny conditions, the driver behind me needs to use their fog lights, and now I have some questions.
1. Check vacuum lines: A visual inspection was performed, and no damage was visible. However, hairline cracks may not have been detected.
2. Some people have suggested replacing the EGR valve as a precaution. What does that mean? Is it the vacuum solenoid valve for the EGR, or the EGR valve itself? And where did you buy it? I found that a combined unit, including the vacuum solenoid and the valve, costs €231 from Bosch, which I think is quite expensive just to replace.
3. The AGR valve also has the actuation for the throttle valve attached to it, could the problem be related to that? Because after treating this vacuum control with silicone spray, the soot has significantly decreased. The linkage was also well-lubricated (with copper grease). However, as I understand it, the throttle valve is only needed for idling.
The VTG adjustment mechanism has also been treated with copper paste, so that's not the issue either.
I would be very grateful for some explanatory words.
Matte.
