Hello,
I accidentally discovered a (at least for me) new function on my instrument cluster

while playing around: Turn the ignition on, press and hold the distance button, turn the ignition off, turn the ignition on again, and release the button.
Then, by pressing the trip button again, I can query eight different data points, including, under point 5, a test of all the LCD elements. I noticed that when doing this, the six arrows below the tachometer also become visible, which are normally only found on vehicles with the Multifunction Display (MFA). However, my Golf does not have an MFA.
Now that I can already see the arrows, the question arises for me whether the MFA (Multifunction Display) function of the instrument cluster can be activated via adaptation channels (or directly through the instrument cluster itself).
Then, I would only need to buy a wiper switch with MFA functionality, and I could at least display my consumption. For the outside and oil temperature, I would then need to retrofit the sensors. I could definitely do without the printed symbols

.
Does anyone know anything about retrofitting MFA without a control unit replacement?

Is the function I 'discovered' already known, or is it something for the knowledge base?
For those who are interested in all the data:
1: 3813 (Momentum number?)
2:1
3: 32253
4: 4
5: Test of all LCD segments.
6:0
7: Current speed (or RPM).
8: 6.6 Trip (no idea what this is, it's not my current odometer reading).
You can access these values by briefly pressing the distance button. A number will appear for about two seconds, and then the value will be displayed until the ignition is turned off or the button is pressed again.
My car is a 1997 Volkswagen Golf 3, as indicated in my profile.
Hoping that you can shed some light on this for me...
