Hi,

I experienced significantly louder noises from my washing machine this weekend than usual.
At first, I thought the flexible pipe was broken again, but it wasn't.

Lying under the car (my girlfriend was diligently keeping the engine at 1400 RPM), I heard a droning sound coming from the direction of the air filter, while the flex pipe was completely rigid and silent.

From above, the air filter was also "too loud."

I removed the filter cartridge and could see minimal dirt on the edges where it was supposed to be firmly seated.

Everything cleaned and reassembled - Droehnen is gone.

The scary thing about this is that I haven't really understood how the air filter box works lately - I only took out the large 76mm pipe leading to the turbo once, and in doing so, I pushed the box firmly forward.

It is obvious that the upper part of the LufiKasten can be shifted against the lower part, causing it to become leaky!
All the nozzles and clamps were correctly closed both before and after the process, but it was clear that a leak had developed nonetheless.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

'On my AAZ (without a mass airflow sensor...), I had an air filter from ATU (I don't remember the manufacturer - it wasn't a K&N). The rubber rim of this filter was too thin. It wasn't sealing properly. I built up the seal all around with a piece of Tesa fabric tape, and then it worked reasonably well.'

Perhaps your filter is experiencing a leak due to a too-thin seal. However, the upper filter housing likely pulls the filter tight and creates a seal. The leak probably originates on the dirty side. It's a matter of balance between the suction pressure and gravity, determining which side the leak occurs on.

Martin,

Can you describe this rumbling sound in more detail (I know it's always difficult)?

I also experience a dull, deep rumbling sound around 1400 RPM.
Only operate within this resonance window, around 1400 RPM.
I also wanted to search in the low-frequency range, but my wife couldn't maintain that specific speed consistently for very long.
And after one attempt, it was over.
After a few harsh words, she didn't want to keep going anymore... icon_wink.gif

OK, detailed description for Georg:

(1) looking for a suitable woman who enjoys giving gas (I also had to search for a few years icon_lol.gif.
... well, the rest is obvious.

So, that buzzing sound probably wouldn't have been noticed by anyone except maybe me, the old perfectionist. Overall, the engine was louder, and I think I also noticed a more distinct difference on the highway, especially during load changes.
Yes, it was dull and deep, and it resonated very well with the large interior of the Variant. icon_evil.gif

As I said, I messed around with it, fiddled with the Flexro connector (after the third Flexro connector, you know how it goes) - okay, everything stayed the same.

Even while lying under the stage, people heard that the noise was coming from above and to the right (so, from the lighting rig, the fly system, etc.).

From above, one could hear the fan humming, and I think I even felt a slight draft on my delicate computer scientist's hands.

Now, the most important step:
"To free a woman and be incredibly grateful that she helped."
Start hiring immediately (because now we know what it was).

"I'm just going to take out the trash for a moment."

I also believe that this "hooking" mechanism on the air filter contributes to it not sealing properly over time. I would prefer if it were held in place with clamps all around.

It's also a good idea to replace the three rubber feet on the air filter box (two on the bottom, one in the fender). They tend to break off quickly, and then the air filter box can start to vibrate.

Thank you, Martin.

'This is detailed enough for me.'

If I ever find a suitable woman who is willing to provide gas (I hope she charges less than the usual 50,- for half an hour icon_wink.gif),
I will now begin my search in the field of LoRaWAN.

I will also take a closer look at the rubber dampers underneath the air filter box.
During the repair of the body damage on the right side at the dealership, they sprayed something heavily on the bottom panel where the air filter housing (LuFIKa) is located. Now that I know they cut corners everywhere back then, I'm sure I'll find something. icon_evil.gif

See you later.

Georg.

Okay, as far as I remember about the AFN roof rack, the hooks didn't have any play. I always had to aim very carefully to get the top part of the rack to fit properly into both hooks, and then use the clips to lock it in place so that the lid sits straight all around.
Therefore, I find it hard to believe that these tight guides can become so loose over time that the casing partially opens.

Have you already checked the areas around all 4 "fixation points" for cracks?
Then, one might be able to put the lid on correctly by feel, but in reality, it sits slightly crooked (or can be shifted out of its correct position by nearby operations without the clips popping open), and then, through a slot, warning sounds leak out.
