The climate control display is no longer showing anything.

When I started the ignition, the display on the Climatronic control panel turned on, as usual. Everything seemed fine so far. However, suddenly the entire display on the control panel went out, and I couldn't control anything anymore. And simultaneously, the blower started operating at its highest setting.

In the evening, things would work for a short time, and then shortly after, the same problem would occur again.

Now I took it to VW, and they read the error codes and checked the connections.

Connections are okay. The error memory has been cleared. I don't know what was stored in it. It seems to be related to the climate control and temperature display. The display (in the instrument cluster) wasn't showing anything either. I should wait and see if it's working now. If not, the Climatronic control unit will need to be replaced. Approximately 430, including installation.

Do you have any suggestions for other possible causes, as I can't imagine that a complex control unit would be necessary? I was initially thinking about a sensor or something like that.

I encountered a very similar problem with a customer's vehicle not long ago. The issue was always the same: after some time, the display lighting would go out, the car would get very warm (maximum heating), and it would become impossible to adjust anything. Initially, using a Vag-Com diagnostic tool didn't provide much information because no error codes were stored. I then installed a different climate control unit, and it worked perfectly. So, I thought the problem was in the details and decided to disassemble the old unit. After some searching, I found two or three suspicious solder joints (cold solder joints) and also replaced a capacitor that had already started to leak its electrolyte."I had distributed the components across the circuit board, reassembled the part, put it back in the car, and now it's working perfectly again. Just take a look at your circuit board; maybe you'll discover something. If you're looking for used replacement parts, check out www.retek.de; you can find those parts for very little money. I highly recommend this company if you want something that's not too expensive."

I recently discovered a company near me that specializes in repairing Hella climate control electronics.

I'll also inquire there to see if they can repair that.
